Box Sealant...?

Post by SkuZz902 » Mon Dec 12, 2005 3:30 pm

I was just wondering what is a good sealer for a sealed box of course... Just to go over the corners and seal old screw holes and maybe around the terminal. A few that i heard of using is like liquid nail, silicone, expanding foam, ect... anyone have anything specific that they use or thats not to pricey that works good?

to seal it from the inside i use expanding foam. i guess you can use it from the outside, but your gonna have to peel the carpet (if any) and then trim the excess foam with something like a razor.

Spray on sound deadening works good if your trying to seal up an already built box, to save $$$ you could also use "paintable rubberized undercoating" you can pick it up for like $3 a spraycan at most auto parts stores.

When I've built my boxes, I've always used some Liquid Nails along with heavy screws every couple inches. As far as any sound deadening, never really needed to use anything, although it'd probably help.

my buddy builds boxes for a living, and he rambled off some reasoning why liquid nail is not the right thing to use b/c it doesn't flex, but you should use cilicon instead because of its flex quality.
