Sorry to read that. Maybe all of the bad stuff for your next year was taken care of yesterday so it will be smooth sailing for the next 364.

Early last week I got word that my live in babysitter is going to throw a birthday party for her daughter who's birthday was a week prior too. Conveniently she decided to have the party at my house on my birthday and because of this I told Vicki that I will not be there because I did not want to be around a bunch of 3-5year olds and there parents I do not even know. So I planned the day being gone all day with my son, go to his basketball game, run to work for a minute, run to the galleria mall for lunch and hit up the arcade, goto the Buffalo Auto Show, then finally go out for dinner with my parents........
I woke up yesterday morning to find my house completely decorated for the babysitters daughters birthday party and to find a piñata hanging from my Circa 1925 Brass chandelier in my dining room. I immediately woke up Vicki at 8am and told her to get it removed since if I were to remove it I would throw it out :cussing:
9am rolls around and me and my eldest son head to his basketball game. It was kinda fun as we were early and him and I got to shoot some hoops together. I have not thrown a basketball in almost 15years and this was the first time with my 11 year old son. It was great....
So around 11am the game was over and we started on the 30min drive to my work, not even 2minutes leaving his basketball game someone had plowed some snow into the street I was driving on and I ended up driving over it. Shortly after that coming to a stop sign my downpipe separated from my midpipe :banghead: The snow was thick enough to move my exhaust band clamp away from where it was supposed to be.I called up Vicki to see where she was at so I could get some tools delivered to me and to find out she was already out running errons and it would be at least an hour before she would even get to me. So I ended up driving the car easily to the local Goodyear automotive center to see if they could put the car up in the air quick so it could be reconnected. Since I've dealt with them before through work they were more than willing to give me a hand.
After getting the car up in the air we tried to reattach the pipes together using the band clamp that was already there and it could not be reused. So I called the NAPA store that I originally got the clamp from so I could get the part number and order a replacement clamp from my local NAPA. I called the local NAPA, ordered the part and they delivered it to the Goodyear store I was at. Approximately 45minutes after I ordered the part it showed up and it was a 5 inch band clamp and not a 2 1/2" band clamp. I called the local NAPA store back and they stated they sent me what I called and ordered, which means the NAPA store I originally got the clamp from gave me the wrong part number. So another hour goes by while I waited for the correct clamp to show up. Once the correct clamp showed up it took a whole 5 minutes to get the car back together and they only charged me for labor, $26....
So now we headed to my work 2hrs behind schedule, 30min drive there went smoothly, dropped off what I needed and then we drove another 30minutes from my work to the Galleria mall for lunch and to hit up the arcade. Once we arrived to the Walden Galleria mall it took almost 10 minutes to find a lousy parking spot. So we headed to the food court for lunch, there is a wide selection of food choices to choose from and my son of course chooses TacoBell. I was like, whatever lets eat.
So once we were done eating I started to find the arcade so my son and I can play some games, come to find out that the arcade was removed about 6 months ago. So now its about 3:30pm and I said screw it, lets keep moving. Not 3 minutes down the road my throttle cable snapped just before turning on to Walden Ave. Walden ave is one of the busiest 4 lane roads in WNY. I turned on my hazards and waved traffic on by as I was not going anywhere until I figured out what I could do.
I popped the hood to find the cable snapped right at the aluminum ball right in the throttle linkage and there is nothing I could do sitting where I was at. So I pulled a vacuum line so the car would idle around 1200rpm and easily limped the car on to Walden ave heading West to try to find a garage I could pull into. Go figure the closest garage is another Goodyear service center.
I pulled into there parking lot and asked the store manager where the closest auto parts store is and they stated about 5 miles East on Walden ave. There is no way I am going to be able to limp the car any farther and they stated there was a Ford dealership about 1 block down the road, maybe they could help. So my son and I took a walk to the dealership to see if there parts department would have anything that could help. The only thing they could give me was a piece of electrical wire with a factory crimped and soldered connector on it. So I ended up taking this, feeding it through the throttle linkage and tying it to my throttle cable. At least it was enough to where I can work the throttle cable some what so I can drive down the busy road to get to a parts store.
I ended up holding the throttle and power shifting the car so I would move the throttle as little as possible to ensure it holds until I got to a parts store. I luckily made it to the parts store without any problems.
So I walked into AutoZone and headed to the "Help" isle to see if there was anything there I could use to get the car working and of course there was nothing. I asked the parts counter people if they had any type of throttle cables in stock and of course they wanted to know an application. I told them there is no exact application because of the custom build and one of the counter people remembered seeing an unknown throttle able sitting on the shelf in the storage room. He went back and grabbed the cable and it had a pressed on steel end that might work. I took the cable out to my car and the steel end was just big enough to hold the cable from pulling out of the throttle linkage. So I ended up buying the cable, some tools, cable stops, zip ties
$15 for cable, $9.99 plier set, $5 for cable stops, $3 for zip ties
I ended up feeding the cable through the linkage and using the cable stops to attach both the new cable and broken cable together. I then added a zip tie to the throttle linkage to ensure the cable would not slide off. Once it was all working properly we started to leave AutoZone around 5pm. I started heading down the road to find out that I only had 1/4 throttle max so I was not going to get back on the thruway and we were not going to go to the auto show. It would be my luck that I get downtown Buffalo and something else goes wrong. So I started to head home, I called my parents to post pone dinner because my stomach was bothering me because of how they day played out.
So I finally got home around 6pm to call it a night, I grabbed a beer went to my bedroom picked up my guitar started to play while listening to the kids and adults down stairs having a good time celebrating some one else's birthday.....
HappyBirthday......

Gee Chris, that really stinks. At least you know how to fix cars... I would have been stranded, throwing my hands up the first time that something went wrong. A pat on the back to you.

Probably shouldn't listen to anything your penis says, that guy's a dick.
Patience, of course, is a very powerful weapon, but sometimes I start to regret that it is not a firearm.

My 11 year anniversary being married to Vicki.....
Thanks guys....
I'm still driving around with only 1/4 throttle as Chrysler has no throttle cables and the junkyard is going to charge as much as a new one. So I'm taking it easy with the car for now and looking into some options like instead of repairing or replacing...upgrading........
