When I had my car resprayed, he cut out like 3" all around that and welded in a whole new piece. Permanent? Nope. That car is still driving somewhere and rusting somewhere ELSE besides that spot.

I wash and wax my car regularly too.
Sadly most "body shops" only want to do collision work anymore. They run like little bitches when you bring something rusted to them. I had a hell of a time finding a place that would weld in a new floor board on my Jeep.

The funny thing is, if it was hit and dented beyond what bondo can do, they would cut it out and weld a new piece in. :tardbang:

Or inflate the cost so much that it is totaled.

I local told me to do this:
http://www.rogerarrick.com/sodablaster/
Then spray that POR stuff on there and take it to a body shop and have them blend it in.

Well, I got a quote: the only way they would even think of guaranteeing the work is to replace both rear quarter panels.

$3600 plus.

It ain't going to happen. I love my neon, but not that much. :|

^ ouch!

i'm still debating on what to do with my 01. the rust is showing through the paint now. i'm thinking of knocking/cutting out the small area, fill in with the foam expanding stuff, and then bondo, and have the area painted... hoping it would at least last a couple of years.

My 03 is doing this. I'm glad I'm not the only one who has this problem. Well, I'd rather not have it at all.

The entire quarter panel is rotting RAPIDLY. Now it's turning to dust on the bottom near the pinch welds. Pics later today, this is crazy.

Yes, the rust is easting my old-ass 2gn, too. Showing through the paint and bubbling and all... It really makes me give up on the whole chassis. No more turboing it, no more pt swapping it, fuck the thought of ever putting the interior back in since no one will buy it with all that's done anyway. This rust is a major car-killer. Just gonna keep it stripped and caged with great suspension and mild motor work, nothing even slightly crazy. In my mind, it has gone from a look-at-me street tuner to a bumpy-ride rusty old autocross car.

Honestly, if we didn't have winter here, I would have a Mustang GT by now. I don't know why you guys from florida or california even fuck around with these neons when you can be driving pure sports cars all year round - think about it, you're so lucky.

I doubt it. It is only right there, in that spot.

When I do the passenger side, I'll post pics of what lurks there too.

After removing the rust, and sealing it with epoxy paint, I cut a piece of stainless sheet metal, and popped some small holes in it.

Then used structural adhesive and a 90º pick to pull it into place.

Can we coin the term, Neon cancer, now?

I've got Neon cancer, it's in the initial stage.

The cure lies in the courage to break out the Dremel. I have been putting it off for way too long. At least the passenger side isn't as bad. The driver side is after a bit over two years since the little bubbles formed. Luckily it didn't go faster.

I noticed two little bubbles forming on the drivers side of my car about a month ago :( Mine are further up along the wheel wheel though. I'm sure there is rot all along there. FML :cussing:
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

There is also a seal that goes along the wheel opening. It is foam rubber. Nothing like a porous seal to wick water.
In the lower righthand corner of the hole, you can see it under the debris.

Not that I can see. I think it is sprayed in from the cabin side, and oozes against the quarter panel in that one place.

The car has been in my parent's garage for going on two weeks now, and that crap was still damp.

I have to give credit to the paint metal for holding out for 10 years against that stuff.
