GM, Ford, and Chrysler have used each other's parts/company owned vendors for years.

Don't feel too badly about this- most people outside of the industry would be in the dark on the subject.

EDIT to correct spelling error.

In truth, you are correct. Mopar is a Chrysler "company". Mopar is the umbrela that all of the parts suppliers sit under. Of those suppliers, many do supply parts to other OEMs.

So to say that Mopar supplies parts to other OEMs is not correct.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

LOL... I work for a huge company that does supply chain management and the steel mill that provides steel to GM's Tier 1 suppliers is our biggest account... and nowhere is Chrysler involved.

Don't get me wrong, Chrysler (Mopar) does not own nor control any of their suppliers beyond the agreements of contract.

To make it more confusing, Mopar is not a "real" thing. It is simply a name that Chrysler corp uses to label their parts and accessories operations.

I figured Mopar was similar to FoMoCo/Ford Racing/ACDelco/GM Performance Parts as in they supply customers (dealers, same thing really) with OEM spec parts. They however do not manufacture the parts themselves.

I would say 95% of cars are all make with components built by other suppliers. I.E. Dana axle, New process gear, Delphi, Blistine, Lear seats, ect.

A million parts all made by the lowest bidder.
