Non-tach to tach set up

Post by That One Guy . . . » Fri Feb 18, 2011 1:58 pm

Hey, I've got a 2002 base model. I've got a lot of mods in store for her, but before I do anything for performance or anything aftermarket I want to upgrade the car so it's not so much of a base model (power options, etc.) . Anyway, the first thing I picked for whatever reason was the gauge cluster. The '02 base models came with clusters that don't have tachs. I went to a bone yard and pulled out one that does from an r/t. So anyway, my question is; Will I have any problems going from a non-tach to a tach? Can I just plug 'er right in? And wtf do I do about the odometer? Also, making me aware of any speed bumps I might hit when going to put in the other power options would be much appreciated. Thanks.

The tach cluster is plug and play.

But IIRC the brake light will stay on. Most ppl just remove the bulb. I could be wrong tho, it might be just the '03 up clusters that do that. But I think I had to pull the bulb in mine. ('01 non tach to '01 or '02 tach. cluster)

The mileage, there isn't much you can do. If it is higher than yours, you could wait until yours is close, and swap. If it is lower, a dealer may add miles to it, but most won't bother, since you didn't buy it new from them. A new one is way to much $$$ to consider buying.

Since the one I got was lower, I just recorded both , and stuck the paper inside the dash. I also keep it in my record book, so I can get the actual mileage when needed.

As for other power options...

Thanks, I appreciate the info on the gauge cluster. Maybe a dealer would certify the new mileage? Idk. Anyway, as for that link to stuff about the wiring harness. That's a bit over my head atm. Im not gonna be installing all of the options myself, but if you could give me a list of all of the stuff I'm gonna need to get to install power locks, power windows, cruise control, and remote entry, that would be great. I'm not looking to install a sun roof atm. Thats just asking for leaking issues. Oh, and foglights too. Just stock fogs, nothin special right now, just better than what I've got now.

Update: I went and swapped out the clusters. The IIRC b-light is still on. I'll remove the bulb eventually. I'm gonna swap in some LEDs for the cluster lights in a few weeks, so until then the light being on doesn't bug me too much.

IIRC = If I Recall Correctly.

For the power options replies/questions please refer to this thread. It will be easier to track questions and answers that way.
