ATX shift knobs

Post by That One Guy . . . » Fri Feb 18, 2011 11:00 pm

Everywhere I look, I can only find shift knobs for MTX"s. While I plan to do an MTX swap eventually, it's not in the cards right now, and I despise the stock knob. Anybody know where I can find ATX shift knobs?

IIRC, the PT Cruiser knobs have been used in the neons.

Shawn (Slaw) has some kind of knob on his car...although his, because it didn't have the little release button, you had to push down in order to shift. It was slightly confusing...

I'd ask him.

That's an interesting setup... makes the car harder to steal I'd imagine unless the thief can figure out to push down.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Automati ... ccessories ive got this little guy, you just remove the old knob, screw this one into place and ur good to go, and as jess stated to use it u just press down the whole knob, its quite simple and very clean looking. anthony (glasswars) told me it was like " a short shifter for an automatic" when he did my photoshoot lol

If someone put a gun to my head, and I had to drive a 4-spd.ATX Neon, I would go with the PT Cruiser shifter.

My *DREAM* would be to *adapt* a '70 B-E body 'Slapstik' shifter handle, to my '99 ATX Neon......
Now THAT would be SOO 'MoPar' and SOOO Cool..... 8) ... It would take quite a bit of "re-engineering" to make it work, however.

Did you have to change anything other than the knob?

Nope just took the stock knob off and put this one on, I did have to make an extension for the inside so when you pushed the button it would actually work.

I'm going to have to see about picking up a PT knob then... how difficult was the extension to make?

It wasn't to hard, just have to find a piece that will fit inside it and figure out the length it needs to be, if i remember right maybe a half inch long, something like that, then I glued in.
