Passing Inspection Questions
Passing Inspection Questions
Well, it's coming up on that time, April and inspection time. Will I pass? Probably not... Fucking PA...
1. Ok, to everyone who has their interior stripped (fuzzy), is there ever a hassle with not having air bags or air bag stickers aka visors?
2. Currently my odometer reads 85xxx, but the car gas 110xxx on it. Big problem? Am I going to have to "EXEMPT" the milleage or swap clusters for inspection?
3. I have no washer nozzles and I will fail without them. Any ideas? I was thinking drilling two holes in the black plastic thing with the name that's hard to remember just in front of the windshield.
4. Then there's the exhaust... Still have catalytic converter and an 8" CherryBomb Glasspack excuse for a muffler, but it comes out before the rear axle, which I heard is only for dumptrucks.
Again, I live in PA and have had a few mechanics and cops look at the car, some are a bit iffy about it and some just cringe. I'm looking for ANY input on these problems guys, thanks. Just crossing my fingers and hoping I won't have to put the visors, rear seat belts, nozzles, exhaust, cluster, etc etc back in just for stupid safety inspection.

If you are required to have airbags, I'm not sure how you can get around that???
What was the mileage of your last inspection? If it is still lower, tell 'em you parked it.
Washer nozzles are nice to have either way. The cowl would be a good place. Think there's a write-up somewhere...
Read the vehicle code. If it needs to go over the axle, clamp on a piece of tubing so it does?

Only if you're in an accident, and there should be plenty of time to reinstall the airbag in between the "oh" and the expletive that normally follows (This is a family board, after all) right?JeffM wrote:Why would you not have an airbag?...That just sounds like a problem waiting to happen...

hmm I well hear in VA you do not need to have washer nozzles, just your windshield wipers have to be functional. And your mileage should not be an issue. But really I can only go by what ive had to go through here. I went from 110xxx to 45xxx after my srt swap and i was never questioned for it. I guess you have to look up PA inspection requirements to really know for sure. For the air bags you can just put in resistors to have to air bags lights turn off. Probably not good advice if this car is your daily you may want to think about this one.
Actually, I still have the airbags, but was debating getting the delete and a different wheel, so the airbag thing isn't a problem. Also, it's not a time issue, I know I could throw the belts, visors, cluster, and shit on in much less than three hours, but I was just seeing if I really had to or if most places just overlook the little stuff. The things I can't just do myself in three hours are get an entire new interior or get an entire new exhaust. Those are the two things I could see them rejecting at a glance, but I know plenty of you have side exhausts and/or are stripped.
Edit: Just saw the washer nozzle how to, so that's no longer an issue. We're making progress now.

In Ohio, they can make you get truck plates for not having a rear seat.
Their logic is you can't transport ppl back there, (legally) and would use it for cargo. But if that route was taken, I doubt seat belts would be an issue.

If you can pass a NYSI, then you will pass PA....
Not using the OE airbag and going with an aftermarket steering wheel is up to you, but is against Federal law as you are removing a safety device. Gutting the interior, there is no law stating you can't as long as you do not mess with any safety devices. My opionion, is your head worth having a pretty steering wheel?
