COMPATABILITY question

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

COMPATABILITY question

Post by echoalpha23 » Wed Feb 23, 2011 8:28 pm

was wondering if its possible, to swap the hotter 95 sohc cam into one of the newer engines, lets just say an 02 (not saying that i happen to have a donor 95 and a willing recipient that has an 02).

Yes, although the difference is not night and day. If you are going to make the effort, I recommend doing something a little naughtier.
ASP - First NGC SOHC in the 13s and the 12s. First SOHC neon over 500whp. First NGC Neon on MS.

compatability question

Post by g_force58 » Wed Feb 23, 2011 10:51 pm

Yup it fits! Just buy the 95 cam and go for it. I bought the MoPar Performance Stage 1 cam from the cataloge and guess what? It's just the 95 SOHC cam for a much higher price. Didn't do my research and got burned. The cam has not given any trouble or codes in the year it's been in there and does boost torque from idle to 6,000 rpm. Disappointing on horsepower out put though, only a 4 hp gain. If I had it to do over it would be a Crane 400.

FREE 95 CAM = 2x w00t! (free is the best price, and any gain is better than none).

THANX GUYS!

IIRC the MP cam is a 6 hp increase, 2 hp for Magnum engines. It is better than the '95 cam. The regular R/T cams are better choices.

From base to better =stock/95/'02-up Magnum/'01 Magnum/MP cam, as far as oem goes.

I thought the 01 Magnum cam was slightly hotter than the 02-04 :-k
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

It is. I listed them from mild to less mild*. thus why the '02 up is before the '01. :D

*Really can't classify that list as mild to wild.
