Kill Switch

Post by inthemaking » Thu Mar 03, 2011 9:53 am

Any ideas on what I can run a kill switch to? Me and my girl friend both own the car. But we have our up's and down's But she knows nothing about a car. But her so called "Guy friends" do. I want to run a kill switch to something that her Guy friends would'nt be able to notice or tell. And of course, were would be a good spot to put it? And ideas would be great guys. Thanks :withstupid:

Wow I read this and got to thinking...Being in Car audio for 13+ years I had my share of "kill switch" systems...I got to thinking and dug up a couple of my old units that I used to sell...**took a lot of digging LOL***

They are discontinued now due to technology and cheapness of aftermarket alarms and such but.......

Here is a video of how it works and the company I used to get them from...Let me know if you are interested. I have 2 left Brand new in the box. No "alarm required" will work as a standalone system.

Basically you have to cut the starter wire and put in the relay and wire the keypad to it..I have all the paperwork that came with it...Only problem is everytime you start the car you need to input the key code unless you put it in valet mode which disables it until you turn it back on.. **OR** you can hide a switch to completely turn the unit off until you know you want the protection..Its all included in the paperwork..

it can be used as a stand alone or if you have an aftermarket alarm it will set off the alarm after 3 or 4 incorrect key codes

Pm me if you have any more questions...

what you need is an old cellphone and a relay - so you can kill the car whenever you like!
(And if you go professional you could have that with gps - so you can see on google maps where you can pick up your car and kick the drivers ass!)

If both your names are on the title, you could run into some legal/liability issues. Hell it may not even need to have her on the title, if she uses it on a regular basis. Say she needs to go to the ER, and the car won't start. It is then discovered you put a kill switch without her knowledge. You will spend time in the local jail, and be charged with endangering.

Just ask a former coworker of mine how he knows. His wife didn't even have an emergency, the car was not insured, or plated, but since he took the wires off to keep her from driving it, (because he knew she would), he went to jail for three days, and ended up paying $3000 in fines.

The ER scenario is exactly what they charged him with. ;)

Warning: Don't f*ck with a womans car. You will have your balls in a ringer.

Get a new girlfriend, and let the car go.

In the fight situation, you could be charged with all kinds of nice things, up to and including felonies. Under 'domestic disturbance' and 'domestic violence' cases, some things are enhanced. Just like how if, during an argument, if you took her phone away from her, it would be a felony. (same goes from prohibiting access to land lines, cell phones, cable/satalite TV, and internet)

If she is on the title, or has regular use of the vehicle, anything you do to prohibit her from using it, is illegal. It could even be considered grand theft of an automobile... even if you dont move the car at all.

The only good and legal advice I can give you here, is what I said in the first sentence. Hate to burst your bubble, but you're wanting to get into a legal mess here.

This. if you really have to worry about her taking your car or messing with it that you have to be able to keep her from starting it with a kill switch id say leave her.... but thats just me..

edit: also just read the orig post.. dont let her so called guy friends work on your car... imo if its your car you should be able to control who touches maintenance things. even if ya'll are fighting why are they working on a car that is under your name as well....

It is better to learn from other's mistakes, instead of your own.

While surrounding yourself with intelligent ppl is fine, you also have to occasionally hang around some dumb asses to see what not to do, or better explained, to see the results.

But, you don't want to be the dumb ass the intelligent folks are hanging with, for entertainment purposes. :D

Think a good idea could be to get a dead relay and install it instead of the starter or the ASD-relay

Hmmm, wonder if it sets a code for the ASD relay circuit. (Too lazy to look)

Either way, if it did cause a situation where it cost her life, it will be something he has to live with, whether or not it is found out/proven.

Not something I want on my conscience over overactive hormones. In a few years, you will look back and say WTF was I so worried about...

It won't. It will just crank until the starter or battery dies, or her hand gets tired of holding the key. :D

you could also do a starter kill relay hooked up to a micro switch and bury the switch somewhere....it wont allow the car to crank over unless the switch is on....

the keypad is more of a "coolness" effect lol

I have no problem with a kill switch, as long as all concerned parties know how to disable it.

Just throw a drag racing battery kill switch on it and keep the knob dealies in your pocket. "Your honor, its a strip only car with not street legal options."

if she needs to go to ER she should better call 911.

-Why are we/you worried about her 'guy friends'?

-Why isn't your girlfriend in the kitchen?

Oh shit, dude. I didn't read any of this thread except the first post, and let me tell you man, fucking run. Once they start talking about "guy friends" you're basically their bitch. Don't be pussy whipped, RUUUN!

Or just constantly tell her about all your girl friends and how great they are.

tell her "don't mind them honey! yeah sure, all those short shirts and skirts that can barely cover there T's and A's - but they are just good friends and we can talk about cars, beer and football. so there is absolutely no reason to be jealous or to read my cellphone messages..."

The bill from an ambulance ride here in the States will cause more stress than the reason for the ride. If the heart attack doesn't kill you, the bill will finish you off.
