Keyless entry issues...

Post by logikfive » Thu Mar 03, 2011 12:33 pm

First, biggest gripe is I don't have a "honk" when I lock the doors. Pretty annoying. The horn works fine when pressing it on the steering wheel. There is a procedure in the owners manual to enable/disable it, and I've done that 3 or 4 times now and have gotten the chime that tells me the setup was successful. Each time the horn still does not honk when it's locked with the fob. Could this still have to be programmed by a dealer?

I've also noticed, I have two key fobs for the car. Both will lock, unlock and pop the trunk. However, "panic" button on both remotes does not do anything. Lights do not even flash. Not really concerned with this, but I'd wonder if it has any relation to the door lock "honk"

I've looked around a few times for this but still come empty handed :(
So, maybe there is something I'm missing?

Possibly the wiring from the RKE is bad somewhere between there and the horn relay. I imagine it is tied to the relay coil to operate the horn. Just where it splices in, IDK.

I would have to find a pinout for the RKE to see what actually comes out of it.

As far as the panic feature...are you just pressing the button, or are you holding it down for more than 3 seconds?
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

yeah, even if your horn doesn't go off, your lights should be flashing

Just pressing the button.

On my '99 Durango and '01 Durango they both respond with just a single press.

I've never tried holding it down.

Turns out the RKE module was on it's way out... Big thanks to BlackRoseRacing and Cokedoctor for helping out!

Now I have honk on lock, and my panic works!
