Trunk Button

Post by garfield3887 » Wed Mar 09, 2011 8:48 pm

Ok, first off I DID search the forum for previous posts about this topic, but i didn't find the info i wanted, other than the brilliant idea of relocating it to the drivers side! :)

I acquired a trunk button, however my car does not have an unused harness behind the glove box... Upon inspecting the trunk end of it, the wiring is there to the latch... SO, do i just need to wire one of the wires into ungrounded wire on the trunk end, and the other to a 12v source? or how should i go about wiring this up?

Thanks!

Mine's behind the glove box, but it was already installed. I had never seen anything like it before because it's typically next to the door panel on the driver's side.

As far as wiring?... sorry, I can't help ya :(

someone already did this.... blueneon03 maybe? added the trunk release to an SE. You need the latch in the trunk as well as wiring I think

EDIT: I took 3 seconds to do a search... "adding trunk release" and found this:

ya i did it to my 03 se... first i had a kit with a solenoid to do it, but then got a factory button and solenoid and just used the wiring. the wiring was simple.. fused 12v to a momentary button(factory trunk release would work fine.) the from there to the solenoid in the trunk(green wire) then from the solenoid(black wire) to a ground.. then your done... im not sure what wiring your car might have already in it but i just replaced all mine for this function.. with my original button i had it mounted next to the steering wheel and it went well and i would assume you could do it lower on that panel with the factory button and it would work fine...

Make that "DCX" as the guilty party. :cussing:

Guess the location wasn't as big of a deal to me since the trunk button in my Monte was located in the glove box. At least the Neon's is always hot, unlike the Monte that was ignition switched.

If the latch is not a powered release type, and there was just one wire connected, it is prolly the ground wire for the trunk light.

Edit: The reason for the button in the glove box was so it could be locked, to make getting into the trunk a little harder if someone broke into the car. Pretty much a failed feature....

If you had a locking glove box
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

Yeah, that, and the seats are easily folded down. Also most theives will punch the trunk lock to access the car.

Let's face it, it is more of a convenience feature, so may as well mount it on the driver side, so you don't have to reach/go to an extra step. Tho mine is not in open view, but still easy to operate.

My wife's buick has the trunk button on the drivers side door and I still don't see the convienence when the key fob is also used to open the trunk and such. I'm not into unnecessary stuff when it isn't needed.
Drove my neon until it was killed in a flood.

If you don't have RKE, it is a convenience. (If you are in the car). It is nice to not have to unlock it from the outside when coming home from shopping, as I usually have my hands full with other things I didn't want to put in the trunk. The biggest downfall with RKE, and a button, is the lock cylinders get seized up solid from lack of use.

No.

My loaded '00 ES has it though.

But then, I have EVERYTHING that people bitch about not having on newer cars.
