I Love my droid!!

Post by TheRandom1 » Sun Mar 13, 2011 4:24 pm

Just connected my laptop to my droid via wireless tethering. No internet needed, hell yeah!

Who is your carrier?

Ive done this with my Blackberry too, but you have to watch usage. Verizon and AT&T will charge extra for the 'luxury' of tethering, even if you already pay for unlimited data usage. They will notice based on your data usage. They assume that you can only use "so" much with a phone, and if you use more, they assume you are tethered and will automatically bill you.

Im on Verizon. Not planning on using this too much, was mostly testing to see how it was today.

It is pretty awesome knowing that I can take my laptop with me whenever I want to though and still have internet.

You know it. I do it from time to time... just limited use. I think Verizon wants to charge us an extra $30/month for allowing us to use a feature thats already in our phones... even when unlimited data plans..... *sigh*

Yup, I've got the unlimited plan too. My idea was to use it for the rest of the month since Comcast limits our usage (250 GB cap) and I'm very close to the cap already. I don't see that happening, I'll just limit my net for the most part.

However, having web while out in the garage or if I go to the beach or something is pretty spiffy.

Tell me about the Comcast cap too. lol. Looks like we both get screwed on our interweb addiction.

That said... Ive got a rack mount in my garage, and a better audio set up out there than I do in the house. lol. Hell, Im in the garage right now, on here, listening to music, and installing my headlight harness. lol

I live in a Condo with a detached garage, so I don't get a signal sadly.

I'm considering switching to Clear or something to get away from the wireless cap... but Comcast is just a lot faster than my other options, so I just deal with it.

Ah, that does pose a problem. My wireless signal was ok in the garage, but I ended up running a cable out there.

I still need to run another to the living room for my HTPC... Im just too lazy to go under the house again. Netflix via wireless is not always fun.

Ask around about Clear... they suck out here. Not sure how they do in your neck of the woods.

Meh, I'm rooted but running a stock ROM. Hell, I wouldn't even be rooted except Titanium backup Pro doesn't run on a non-rooted phone for some ridiculous reason. So I'm rooted and use Titanium to sync files to my Dropbox once a week so if I ever lose my phone it's no big deal.

This is not true, I tether my Droid daily for as little as checking my email or to play WoW for hours on end, not to mention streaming video from YouTube and downloading music. I have never paid so much as a dime extra for any usage fees and I have been doing so for almost 18 months

Youre still lucky...

I got away with it for a while too.

It literally took me about a minute and a half to do mine. I love when it's simple!

I also found out last night that DoubleTwist (music player I use) features radio stations, so I can listen to music that way too. However, it seems most of the stations are overseas. Was listening to an Italian Techno station on the way to work today... was pretty cool.

Its awesome bro, its pretty much an obd2 tool and monitor app with gauges for temps, speed, rpm, boost all that jazz. Also does your 0-60 times and what not. You'll need a Bluetooth adapter tho

It hooks up to the port that the usual obd2 scanner hooks up to, right above the pedals

Ahhh. Yeah, I don't see myself using that much. Perhaps if I didn't have a bone stock motor, haha.

That's awesomely perverted.

But yes, I have the same thing going on. It's come in handy as a diagnostic tool several times.

You mean you're not using that ancient candybar that can't even text that you had at the Toledo install anymore?
