Vehicle Shipping

Post by superdan » Tue Mar 15, 2011 12:35 am

I am going to be shipping a vehicle here soon (hopefully) and its just way to far to drive and pick up. So my questions are:

-Does anyone have any experience shipping vehicles?
-What company did you use?
-Good experience or bad?
-Was the car running or no?
-Did they require a deposit when the car was picked up then require full payment upon delivery?

Also anything else I should expect with shipping a vehicle. I have called and got a few quotes and they all claim "no hidden fees" Should I believe that? I just want to make sure the shipping goes as smooth as possible and I dont end up getting stuck with hidden fees or charged for something that isnt needed.

Todd has been around on the Roush forum I've been on for years. Transportation is what he does. A lot of people on the site call him and use him for transporting when they can. If he can't do it (location usually I imagine), he can usually tell you who would be good to call.

Tell him Tyler from FnSweet told you to call ;)

It looks like he mostly uses an enclosed trailer. I just need a flatbed with a winch lol

Jenni- Its about 700 miles away in another state

You don´t have any chance to pick it up with a trailer ?

This is what I did here, as the shipping would have cost nearly the same. Ok - I had been lucky that I only had to pay the trailer rent and the petrol.

I was going to say, if you only need a trailer, rent one?

I used a company called Dependable Auto Shippers. I don't remember the exact details but I used them two times. Once for an Integra from Tennessee to Alaska and another for the Cobra from Michigan to Alaska.

I think it was like $1500 but that was just because it was going to Alaska.

I opted for a non enclosed trailer and I paid in full if I remember right.

Both experiences were good... and I'm sure they deal with vehicles that are not running as well.

One word of advice when I was searching... I too, naturally, wanted to look for the cheapest.

Until I said screw it and decided to look at reviews. You get what you pay for sometimes with shipping a vehicle.

Keep searching for a cheaper one because $1300 seems a bit high (but with the gas prices the way they are... nothing is going to be cheap) and when you find one, google search and look for reviews.

You read my mind actually lol I have been reading reviews for the last hour or so and found a couple decent places with cheaper rates.

If anyone else has any suggestions feel free to post them. I really want this to go smoothly without getting screwed into paying more at the time of delivery

Suggestion:

Fly to the car. Rent a uhaul truck (or a normal truck) and a uhaul trailer and drive it home. You will have to pay for the one way fees, but it should be less than $1300.

At least I would hope so.

Biggest problem you will have with that is you are 21.

Bigger problem would be I have never drove a truck with a trailer on the back. I would be nervous and scared driving a truck 783 miles that wasnt mine lol Logically that would probably be the cheapest and easier way to go about getting the car but again I dont feel confident doing something like that

If you can drive worth a damn.. you'll be fine. it's not hard at all.

Just be cautious, watch your mirrors, etc..

I started driving 44 foot tractor trailers at 18....lmao.

I didn't think about doing the uhaul thing...Uhaul has a full car trailer (no winch to put the vehicle on it though) for about $100 a day around here. I'm not sure how much they charge for a truck though.

Ah, yeah I would need to have the car winched onto the trailer. Also thought about going the AAA route too but from what I understand you get 100 miles free then after that you have to pay. Might be wrong on that though
