Tail light sealing?

Post by Trappy » Tue Mar 15, 2011 4:10 pm

Alright, I didn't have to make a new thread (save giving the "search" lecture for another noob LOL) to figure out why my car is waterlogged. Where do I get this tar stuff to seal my taillights? And how do I re-seal the tail lights? Thanks.

You mean the foam tail light gaskets? Any Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep dealer.

There is no tar sealer used.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

Alright, cool. Thanks y'all I'll keep that in mind. The Neon is too small to be an efficient swimming pool

i only needed the new foam seals from the dealer, nothing else, to stop my water problem. they seem to last about 3-5 years before crapping out.

Yup buy new seals from a dealer. Also my trunk had a removable plug in the bottom underneath all the carpet to drain the water. It is as if dodge knew that this would be a problem. Goodluck and yes black rtv works too.

Thanks y'all. I need to find that plug. I noticed that it leaks out when it's on a certain grade in my driveway...

Take a glass of water and pour it along the rain rails on the bottom of the rear window. With your trunk open and the carpet pulled back, you should be able to see water pour in from the holes.

True. However if you let it fill up enough and turn on the heater, it does make a nice hot tub.

True, true.
And if you re-route the exhaust into the trunk, it makes a wonderful jacuzzi
Add hula girls and fake palm trees/flamingos, and you got it made!

where exactly did you put said sealant? you need to remove the taillight and put it around the gasket...

Thats what I did, I also caulked arround my srt spoiler, still leaking. I can see sunlight arround the tail lights. Theyre aftermarket, and I think they just may be warped?

When mine were leaking, I just used some clear bathroom silicone I had left from remodeling my bathroom. I dunno if it was a no no or not, but it's definitely waterproof and worked like a charm!

Then that's your problem. Time to get better tail lights.

Yeah... if they don't fit properly how can you expect them to seal? :tardbang:

just got the new seals from the dealer yesterday, one was $7.49, the other was $8.10..weird! He says they are a pain in teh butt and that even though the packaging is not marked left or right it seems easy to figure out..he said it takes a while and trial and error...then the more I talked to this 'neon expert' I realized there is a whole lot of hot air in that head!!!!
