Prybars to pop axles

Post by ShayM » Mon Mar 21, 2011 8:54 pm

Of all the tools you can get from Snap-On or Mac or somewhere like that, the one thing I might actually buy at some point is a nice set of heel and toe prybars. I've had the opportunity to use a friend's set on a few occasions, but live in a different province now.

The main thing I have in mind is removing axles. I've taken them out of early 90s FWD Chryslers dozens of times. No challenge. It's almost the same on a Neon, except for that stupid clip that locks them in place. I've only had to do it once, but that one step took longer than everything else put together. My prybars are cheap and thick mild steel, and need to go away. It was stupidly hard to anchor their thick edges.

I can't afford to buy a whole expensive set at this time... but one or two could be ok. Which one or two sizes would you choose, especially for axles? Or, suggest a set that's less expensive, but isn't junk.

I use something like that to pop my axles out of the transmission.
