Some questions, lots of different areas.

Post by phlapjack » Wed Mar 23, 2011 4:34 am

WARNING: Long post!

First time caller, long time listener, to start off, I will take a page from 4chan and give out some information before I ask any of you.

1: DSport magazine just released a huge performance issue dated April 2011 #101 (its got basic drawings of a r35, evo, civic hatch, 370z, and of course a wrx (or is it an sti lol).) This has lots of useful info in it, especially if you are trying to explain to someone something, but it just is not coming out right. The issue covers alot of different topics, ____chargers, Nitrous Oxide, Tires, just a whole slew of things, definitely worth keeping in your trunk.

2: With the whole Earthquake and Nuclear thing that was/is going down in Japan, I thought I would like to mention putting in a rather large towel and some potassium iodide into your earthquake kit. The towel can act like a hood, blanket, pillow, can be stripped into pieces to put pressure on bleeding, in general, Douglas Adams, we owe you!

Ok now for some questions:

(For purposes of this any time I put in Neon, my neon, sx, dodgesx, or similar description, it means a 2005 Dodge SX 2.0 non-high output, with an atx tranny.)

I've had my neon since 2005 and has been kept relatively stock performance wise. What I have done is install HID's to replace factory housing and bulbs. Currently running the first generation of those ebay projectors bought from Modern Performance (Modern Performance btw, you guys just flat out own, just bought plugs, wires and coil from ya). I have installed the LED Taillights (again thank you "MoPer"). Basically with the exception of the front turn signals, I have LED's all around.

Headlights
Question 1: Has anyone done a bi-xenon setup? I'm sure I saw something awhile ago on 2gn about it, if so, what projectors did you go with.

Question 2: Has anyone installed one of those BMW self-leveling HID projector setups into their neon.

Tailights
Question 3: Is anyone doing custom 3rd brake LED's? Far as I can tell LilSparkPlug was the only one offering and no longer does (if i am wrong, my apologies). It would not be rocket science to install a stri of my own, but if someone has an awesome 3rd brake light LED cluster setup/style/thingy, then I am interested in seeing the design/possibly commissioning.

I have decided I am not going to concern myself with Road Racing Style Performance, but rather, comfort and a sleek look. With this in mind I have even more questions to make you guys want to skim this post

Seats
Question 4: What kind of seats would you consider very comfy that a neon can accomodate.
Question 5: What material do you prefer? Is it Elcantara, a carbon fiber shell, vinyl, nylon, gator skin, muscrat hide, please share.

Interior
Question 6: For the Interior, however basically the same as Question 5. Question 7: Follow up to Question 6: What colour?

I love carbon fibre, I mean I am ready to make a commitment and go into a steady relationship with the stuff, despite my wifes odd glances while I drool over A Pillar carbon fibre replacement pieces like it's some particularly dirty pornopgraphy involving Scarlettt Johanson and, ok well maybe just Scarlett Johanson.

Carbon Fibre
Question 8: What goes really really well with carbon fibre.
Question 9: Exterior pieces: what pieces really make a neon look hot; I.E. rear diffuser for SRT4 bumper
Question 10: Interior pieces.
Question 11: Similar to Question 8, but what colours work best? I'm not opposed to di-noc in the slightest, but should i just "murder" the car "out"?

A big piece of having a slick ride obviously is in the sound. Exhaust note or Fidelity, or both.

Audio
Question 12: What 6x9's, 1" Tweeters, and front door panel speakers work well in our car, we have a decent sound stage. Bonus points if its fairly cheap. (I.E. Polk Audio has good quality 6x9's for around 100$ USD)

I am sorry it is so long, and so horribly, horribly Generalized, but it's late and my spare time is ever-shortening this year.

Personal specs for info-filtering:
-On Vancouver Island in British Columbia
-First guy to put coloured HID lights into vehicle in Victoria
-First guy to have RCMP write up for coloured HID lights in Victoria (oh the sheer number of questions I got about why I took them out, usually from teenagers/early 20somethings)
-Strongly believe in HID lighting for driving
-Strongly hate people who do not rock projectors with their HID kits, seriously, you blind everyone on the road.
-Previous cars:
--Some rust bucket Chevy Malibu Wagon, repeatedly told it was not a Malibu. (but why did it have the decals Mike? Why?)
--1979 Pontiac Trans-AM
--2004 Chevrolet Cavalier
-Vancouver Island has no way of inspecting alot of things to do with cars, so while the laws still apply like the rest of British Columbia, there is no real way to enforce. Just don't take the ferry.
-I am going to be buying an R32 next year, that will be my sports car, so no desire to really get it tuned for motorsport.

I have more questions but I will keep it short (LOL) for now.

Thanks for your input, or your tl;dr's.

Chris

P.S. If you are fond of your neon and are on Vancouver Island send me a PM, i'm not a neon enthusiast, but I love my car, and wouldn't mind having another person to kinda "bounce things off of"

Thanks for the replies!
E55, very intriguing, perhaps a spot of ebaying is next on the list.

As for spambotedness, yes it is particularly the reason I do not post often, anywhere. LoL.

The Questions were all at once cause my timeframe is fairly short, I lost a little sleep working on that mammoth last night, but if I did not do it then, it would be awhile before I could.

Fapjax...I immediately think of that guy from Mortal Kombat 2 with the metal arms.

You (obviously) do not have to answer them all, I enumerated it so Person_A could type Question #x for a headliner, then answer. This way I would know what you were responding to without much thought. Mind you if you talk about bi-xenon, it is unlikely it will be the type of cloth for the interior.

Lastly:

neon neon dodgesx acr srt4 1gn 2gn sx2.0

lol...

1. many guys made that incl me.
look for "retrofit headlights".
popular are E55 projectors.

https://picasaweb.google.com/LegomanBerlin/201003Xenon2
https://picasaweb.google.com/LegomanBer ... Xenonumbau

2. for what??? BMW has that for the German law. here you need automatic headlight adjustment for xenon. Not needed in the States. You can install Hella height adjustment system. But it is expensive (~400$) and a PITA to install into your headlights (near impossible) - and the effect is absolutely not worth the stress!

4. Chrysler Neon LX leather seats. Hard to find but the most comfy seats for our cars.

5 - 7 meeeh i am too lazy

8. money - money goes very well to the company that sells the carbon fiber...

9. what do you mean with hot? Hot like a racer? Hot like a chick? Hot like some chili food? sorry - but if i answer what i think i will get banned...

10. yes, there are some availlabe. you install them inside the car.

Maaaan, all that questions let me think one thing: you are too lazy to read some threads and click through the sections.

have fun in the forum!

Thats exactly what i was hoping for thank you !

lx seats you say

I have browsed retrofit stuff before on forums, but it must have been well over a year ago. I have become a much busier man as of late, which is why the long winded thread.

I actually appreciate the very-very-dumbed down information preenings, ala the carbon fibre money comment. And yes I am being serious, I prefer to be suprised and learn something then to be assumed upon that I know a whole bunch.

Oh in regards to retrofit, I don't know if I found it in one of the threads here, or if I just stumbled on it but:

Thanks again.

1. Morimotos are the most inexpensive bi-xenon projector with excellent output that you can buy.
http://www.theretrofitsource.com/produc ... cts_id=221

You can also use the E55, E46, TL, FXR, or others but the best bang for your buck is the Morimotos.

2. Never seen anyone install that, not sure if it's possible we have very little room to work with in our headlights, let alone when you do a retrofit, it's pretty much aim and go.

3. I still have the arrow style boards available. I can make one for you or can sell you the board by itself.

Image

Everything I have is here: viewtopic.php?t=48598&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

4. I adore the Viper seats but if you're on the larger end of the human spectrum you may not like them as much. This is a personal preference subject more than anything else.

5. My Viper seats are custom covered in Leather and have Alcantara suede centers. Although the suede looks gorgeous, be prepared to vacuum consistently, especially if you have OCD, it attracts everything!

Image

6. Dash match everything, it looks sleeker. See this how-to: viewtopic.php?t=34824

8. Anything you could imagine really

9. Mopar lip kit, keep it simple and sleek. I do love the diffuser on the SRT rear bumper my SRT has one, but for the neon bumpers keeping it sleek and simple works really well.
My daily:

10. Most people dye the headliner and dash match the pillars and such. There really aren't any "additions" that make it look better it's more a sleek thing. You can get Katzkins seat covers or a leather shift boot/arm rest if you so desire as well. Some people go wild and use plaid or patterned fabrics on the pillars and roof too, it's all what you like.

11.Murder it if you want to. I hate Di-noc and CF so you won't find me promoting either

There are aftermarket heated seat kits out there you can buy. I've never done it, nor do I know anyone who has though.
