First time neon owner.

Post by KyleCook » Mon Mar 28, 2011 12:06 am

Hello, i live in Regina Saskatchewan. I am 16 and i just bought a 2004 dodge SX 2.0 or Neon. This is now my 4th car in 2 years (lol) and i have only had my liscense for less than a year. I made a bet with my dad that if i keep it for a year he owes me $100. I plan on modifying it and making a powerful car. My first goal is performance as soon as i pay it off. I still am trying to sell my 1987 Chrysler Lebaron 2 door coupe with a 2.2 turbo, and only 108000KM! man i was excited when i found that car for $900 in great shape, truly old person driven.

I found this car from a guy outside of the city for only $2500, most i saw were going for $4000, and it only had 140 000kms. it is a five speed standard, he had only ran synthetic in it (i dont have the money :banghead: otherwise i would to) and he seemed to love it. I took it for a test drive and smelt a lot of burning anti freeze, i was very turned off and asked him why and he explained when he was fixing the power steering hoses he hit the thermostat housing and it cracked, it was -30 celsius and is plastic, and the antifreeze spilt. I ended up driving it home that day and loving the drive, and the 6 speaker system.

The guy obviously cared for this SX, he had msd wires and cap, and he had the back drums and front pads painted blue, he also has a dodge emblem in the back window and on floormats and he highway drove it so he had the mud guards but they always blew off so i have them in the trunk.

The first upgrade i will do when i get the money is upgrade the air intake, not sure what is the best route to go yet so sugestions would be greatly appreciated, until i have the money i was thinking of buying a K&N drop in from work (Canadian Tire 10% discount :) ) and buying a second cover from a wrecker and cutting holes in the cover, maybe a dodge emblem if able.

Edit: I was reading on NeonCanada and it said adding a cai wont do anything because of the NGC. Is this changable? or is it even worth the time for that?
I had said he only ran premium, i meaant synthetic.

welcome to 2gn. there are lots of threads pertaining to your question and plenty of good quality information here.

to answer your question as simply as possible, its not that an intake wont make any differences in power due to NGC, its that the difference will be alot less noticeable than it would on a non NGC car.

dont expcect huge gains from simple bolt ons on your NGC but a nice throttle response, sound, and possible fuel milage increase can be if you purchase a QUALITY intake such as an AEM, ICEMAN or K&N.

The lebaron is not selling and i can not lower the price any further, I may end up selling the SX and keeping the Lebaron. I would use the money that i make off of the SX to upgrade the lebaron, I just wish there was a good comunity like this for a Lebaron, I cant find anything so i would be shooting in the blind.

I cant decide which car to keep, they are both great cars, this is my link to the lebaron http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3909834/1 ... er-lebaron . The lebaron is a hard car to find with that little kms original and nobody realizes how much of a deal it is, and i cant even get $1800 out of it, i owe 3000 now. i could sell the sx for $4000 easy, and then upgrade this car that is older and has less kms and already has a turbo, but it is a 3-speed auto... I just dont know what to do.

I just drove the neon, i have decided to keep it lol. It is so peppy compared to the lebaron, i shifted to 2nd and my tires just started squealing, it has 8.5mm msd wires and coil.

Please don't use the word "peppy" in the same sentence when your talking about a neon...it's kinda cruel...bad enough they stoped making them, and they let old people (gramps excluded) drive them but Peppy...

But welcome to 2gn, glad to see another Canadian and someone from the prairies too.

No...it just sounds "gahhhhyyyy" I just hate the words cute, and peppy used to describe a neon. I bet others would think the same...It just makes them look bad is all...that's what I mean.
