A/C Compressor

How hard is it to replace the A/C compressor yourself? Mechanic is quoting me $900.

The system needs to be evacuated, as releasing freon is an EPA violation.

Once that is done, it is just a matter of replacing the compressor and seals. It shouldn't be too difficult. The IM may need to be removed if you don't want to go at it from underneath. It may just make things easier anyways. If it is $900 with parts, then it isn't too outrageous, as a new compressor from the dealer is around $400 to $500. With a reman, it might be a bit high. To have it evac'ed and recharged, you may pay as much as $200ish, maybe more?

Yes, it includes parts. But I just saw the Denso A/C compressor at parts geek for $306. That's OEM. I called another mechanic and they quoted $550 over the phone. But then, maybe that's just over the phone and once you go in, it's a lot more.

Well they should replace the dryer while they have it apart anyway but 900 is about right for new parts. I paid about that much for my 98 Chevy truck to get done.

Just got it done today. Got a new aftermarket compressor, installed for $550.

10-month old motor mounts were cracked already, so had those replaced too.
