srt rods& pistons

Post by nolaneon » Tue Mar 29, 2011 6:17 pm

if i rebuild a 2.4 from a pt cruiser, and cant go boost right away, how much will the drop in compression with srt rods and pistons hurt the na performance?

considering an n/a 2.4 puts out 150hp and you are dropping the compression over half a point, so it's going to hurt it.

The NGC cars get away with it because of changes is programming and such, so unless you make other changes it, power will be down.

You could probably crank the timing to help overcome the loss without worrying about detonation since the compression will be low.

The only way ign. timing could be more aggressive would be with a stand alone controller.

Cam timing could be fudged a little to build more cylinder pressure, but you would still lose high end power.

dam thats what i thought, possibly ill just get a set of high compression pistons so itll run like hell lol then just build a low compression short block on the side until im ready for boost.

then go 8:1 fully forged with a huge turbo

That's what is in my DD, and even though it's not as slow as the stock motor, it's still pretty slow.

It really depends on which engine he was referring to. And whether it was compared to the stock 2.0 that came with the car.

I don't see an 8:1/huge turbo tuned by Erick being "slow." :D

My DD doesn't have a turbo at all. It will some day, but I have more important things to work on right now.

Yea. I still have Sam's car here almost done. I just don't have the time to abandon the kids and disappear in the garage for long enough to get it done. But I have to look at your car, a couple of my cars, sam's car, a local drifer's car, a car in south dakota, and maybe one in des moines. Then whatever cars are at Carlisle.

My DD is an SRTified 2.4 with no turbo on it yet. The race car is a 2.0 DOHC.
