ok, so the moldings were killing me and i just
HAD to remove them.
Long story short, the car was poorly repainted.. they didn't care to take off all the moldings. I guess they took off the back one and thought it was too much effort!
So after some 2x sided tape i got this..

And people say I'm crazy for not wanting to take the moldings off. I'm not interested in dealing with that.

That's why I won't take my vehicle to a shoddy shop.
I generally do the paintwork myself these days.
I gotta pull my side moldings sometime soon.. They look so much better without!

You said it was "repainted" which leads me to belive had it been original paint it would have been fine, so is it wrong for me to suggest that if you know your car has not been repainted you should be find removing them at any point 99% of the time?

not really. 99% of the time it will have tiny bubbles in the paint underneath. Mine did and the paint peeled off in a few spots on one door. very minute and I'm the only one that'd ever notice but it won't look 100% underneath most likely.
OP - It looks like what I described kinda. I can't see a paint separation where it was painted over. Did the old tape have paint on the edges of it where it had been blasted with paint?

On the rear door they painted over the tape refer to 1st picture, the front door... They didn't even bother removing the molding at all thats why you can see a clear difference. Moral of the story, if you know your cars been repainted check before you peel the moldings. Lol
