Mount issues

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

Mount issues

Post by HazmatJeff » Wed Apr 06, 2011 3:50 pm

So I just got my mount done and the engine realigned and there is more vibration then ever before. Apparently at some point I hit something to warp the radiator support and that is causing the engine to be pushed out of whack. Now I need to take it to a body shop and have them asses the issue.

I'd like to know if this is something I could do myself or if this is better left to a professional? I once jacked the car up for a minute on the radiator support, maybe that did something? I feel like I got jipped paying $130 for something I could have done myself.

did you replace the torque struts or the motor mount? they're actually 2 different things and maybe the one you replaced wasnt the one that failed.

The torque struts are the issue.

Just lifting it alone on the core support will bend it. It is not a matter of how long it was supporting the weight of the vehicle. It was bending from the moment the jack contacted it. But I doubt it bent the strut tower, let alone moved the engine. Possibly moved the radiator, definitely.

I would measure the distance per the Dante sticky, and see if they had a clue about what they were doing.

Patience, of course, is a very powerful weapon, but sometimes I start to regret that it is not a firearm.
Too much time spent here is a sign of a bad case of Ownaneonvirus.

This. I stupidly jacked under there "quickly" and then heard a breaking noise and let the car down to find the radiator support bent. I paid for that by means of replacing a radiator... Wasn't sure if I cracked it or not but being that it was an automatic I wasn't about to risk it. Turns out I did crack it...

I'm taking it to a body shop on Monday, hopefully they'll tell me some good news.

So they straightened out my radiator support, but it still vibrates like crazy. When I push ever so slightly on the top torque strut the vibration goes away. Though I tighten it with a breaker var and it still does not go away. The lower torque strut is way to tight for me to get off and I have no access to a lift or air tools.
