so, i threw the battery from my civic in the neon today. started for a few seconds and ran super rough. i had siphoned alot of the old gas out before hand and added a bit of fresher stuff. it wanted to start, but just kept dying.
i noticed the plugs looking kind of greasy and smelling of gas (plug seals could be gone)
i also noticed a noise coming from the gas tank area, just sounded like gurgling or something. this was with the car off tho.
there was a noticeable noise coming from the tranny/battery area...like something was running. possibly something in the fuse box? also with the car off.
it started after i shot some quick start in the TB as well.
any tips/advice?
im thinking proper new battery, fresh gas and new plugs?

Key on, but not running? With the key off, there shouldn't be any noises.flhmfd wrote:

If it was on, the sound near the battery area may have been The IAC valve. They will hum/make weird sounds when the engine is not running.
The gas tank sounds, possibly pressure is going back past the regulator, bleeding fuel back into the tank. This would be not so good. How long had it sat before this?

Ouch. 2 year old fuel may have gummed up the filter/regulator, letting pressure feed back. It isn't good, because it will make re starts take a bit longer than usual, due to having to pressurize the system from 0 every time. This is only if the gurgling was from that.
You may run into issues with old fuel sediment clogging the injectors too. I would drain as much as possible from the tank. Possibly put some Seafoam in to help dissolve any deposits.
I think once you get everything freshened up, it will be fine. Include an oil change too. Sitting for that long, it can absorb a lot of moisture, etc.
