Axles rebuildable?

Are our axles rebuildable? I have two axles. One with the inside joint broke and the other with the outside. Can I take the joint out of the race and put it in the other axle?

Yes, they should be, as long as they are both from the same vendor. You will need a boot repair kit/grease at the least. Just be careful not to loose any bearings, etc. I have "rebuilt" a few in years long past before they came out with reman ones. Obviously not neon units tho.

Edit: even if they turn out to be not compatible, you are only out your time, and gained some experience/knowledge.

Got the joint off the old axle. Looks like I should be able to do it. Have to pull the bad axle off of the car.

Anyone have a place or part number for a boot repair kit for a srt-4?

as far as i know you can get them from the chain stores, at least you can for the t350 axles

Yea well going to take the axle off the car I found that it's the same cv that broke as the other axle. coulve swore that it was spinning the whole shaft all the way to the car last night.

So rebuild is out, and autozone nor advance can even order the part. Great.

Nor Napa.

I can pull one from a junkyard for you if you like. It would be neon axle...but arent they the same?

Nope, srt has halfshafts.

Thanks though. Picked the one from the dealer up. $170

Non SRT neons also have halfshafts. Just not equal length.

Ouch, $170?

I bought Advanced Auto (Gator?) axles a few months ago.... like $70-80 each.

Someone told me they have since stopped carrying them?

You bought GSP, gator makes staged axles.

They haven't stopped carrying them, but they are all out of stock with everything on back order.
