Light bulb size

Post by Paralyzer » Thu Dec 22, 2005 12:11 pm

I was wondering what size light bulb it is behind the HVAC controls. I want to replace the clear ones for blue ones. But I don't know what size that are. But if I get a HVAC face that is white I won't need the lights...I don't think...or would I? Someone help me out with this.

I have been searching for LED replacements for those bulbs....and have not yet found what size they are....the 5mm LED's are too large.....I'm wondering if 3mm's would work, but I have not yet been able to find 3mm in any other color than red.......

LEDs bulbs are not terribly hard to make. You just need a thin hand drill, good soldering skills, and a ton of patience. I took out my lights and individually drilled each "chimney" so I could fit a small resistor inline with the cathode lead. I had to cut and resolder thinner wires for the anode and cathode leads as well. Before mounting the LED replacement lights, I sanded them down and gave them a milky texture. The result:

Massive version of the same

The key to building these is thin wires and inline resistors as the lights are 12V.

Cheers!
