2001 neon se stock. Where do i start?

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

2001 neon se stock. Where do i start?

Post by osbunjosh » Tue Apr 19, 2011 7:42 pm

Im trading my crx for a neon to start on a new project. It has only 61k on motor and 5 speed tranny. Clutch is brand new but everything else is stock. So it has what? 135 hp? ehhh not good enough. Where should i start to see great hp increase. Anything imput would help. Car comes with extra motor and tranny i will be building to put in. That motor is also completely stock and yes im thinking the same thing all of you are thinking. What the fuck? Two motors and they are all stock. Gotta be kidding. But anyway, I know CAI and IM are great ways to start but could i see great preformace upgrades by boring it out. getting a port and polish job. new internals? i want a all motor car to start out with and then look into turbo. Thanks guys.

BTW- Im new here as of today so sorry for the long post

Why did you trade a crx for a Neon? If you're going for power, turbo or spray is the only way to go. If you already have a spare motor, it just makes sense to build it for turbo, otherwise you won't see much gain on a N/A build.

I build me crx from the groud up but just got bored. I traded it cause im getting cash and a car with a extra motor and tranny to mess around with. Turbos for these cars are a lot more epensive then for a honda. I just wanna know if build a all motor neon would be worth time and money? Bored .20 over with new eagle pistons and rods. Valve job to head and milled. Then slap on the new coil pack and plugs and drop it in. Any advice on that?

Atta boy!

Yea, that's basically the only route to go with these cars if you want power. If it weren't for big brother SRT-4, these cars would be ... well...

Hahah now for me to aquire a srt 4 motor and ill be set. Thanks guys! Keeping me posted on what I should put in the srt motor. I'm doing the rear break converation for looks. It has the srt front bumper already. Wanna get the spoiler, side skirts and rear bumper. That should give It a nice look :) while I put that on I can build the motor! Wooo hooo. Sounds like a fucking plan.

If I did it that way I could use my stock harness too would I? And isn't the 2.4 the r/t motor?

Since it's an 01, you'd be looking for a 95-99 Stratus motor, or for an even better fitment, a 00-02 PT Cruiser engine. Anything 03+ just gives you problems and some of the older engines have suspension clearance issues, so PT 2.4 is the way to go if you can find one. The r/t's are 2.0's as well, just better equiped than the regular non-Magnum motors.

Me searching is a waste of time because I'm a honda guy. Vtec is my god. But I'm changing that cause I wanna have a neon sleeper. Something that when I'm at a red light and a 2010 civic si pulls up next to me I know I can beat it. I'm just looking for suggestions. So instead of tellin me to search, find the link or just don't comment

get a 2.4 pentastar motor, then go buy stock rods and pistons from an srt4, get a 2.4 dohc and ur set, (unless its already a dohc of course) that would be like 1000 bucks i wanna say? plus the pistons from an srt4 are like 300 bucks at mpx.

Where would I find one of those motors? Or what cars do they come in?

Lol again I say search. I had a Honda too. Doesn't mean you're computer-illiterate. There's a N/A section, turbo section, AND swap section. Peruse them ALL. Only if you're serious, of course.

For Christ's sake man read what we are showing you and browse the forum. everything you have asked can be answered in the stickies or already in this post. Go buy a pt 2.4 it will bolt right in and all you'll have to do is extend some wiring.
