Door Hinges

Post by thecause17 » Sun May 01, 2011 7:37 pm

I don't know if this is a common problem with these cars or not, but I was wondering if anybody else has issues with their door hinges popping when opening and closing. My '99 did this same thing, and my '02 is no different. Both front doors pop when you open or close them. On my '99 I tried greasing the hinges with no luck. Does anyone know of a solution short of replacing them with new ones?

Search for door check strap.

I have the same problem.. i just went to the junkyard and grabbed another one. Just pull off the door panel and remove the speaker. Didn't install it yet but it shouldn't be that bad.

door hinges

The popping you hear is not the hinges, it's the check strap that holds the door partially open or full open. It's just below the top hinge and bolted to the door and door jamb. Cheap at the local junk yard and not that hard to install.

If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

Thanks for the info, I may try that write-up. If it doesn't work out I'll order new ones.
