Whats this car like

hey Guys
We have this car down here by Holden its called a Cruze...I know in the states what its called but I can see its badged a chev

are they any good...? the new series 2 has come out and it looks ok...

They look promising but can be rather expensive for a compact when optioned. I think a fully loaded one is about the most expensive in it's class here.

Supposed to get US 42MPG with the 1.4T engine.

They used to be made in Korea but now the next generation is being made here...HOWEVER I dont know what the engineering is like and the parts etc..etc...

Unfortunately there probably won't be much comparison between the Chevy version and the Holden version.


After a test drive, I'd be willing to buy a US version.

I saw the US-built Cruze at the Indianapolis Auto Show in January and, for a GM product, I was pleasantly surprised. Would like to see an SS version though.

Ummmm...really? One car was found with this problem. And a recall on 2,500 cars is nothing. Yes, this can be a serious problem, but this sounds like a single assembly issue rather than a design flaw. If you knew of the countless recalls across all car makes (many of which are serious) that affect hundreds of thousands of cars at a time, you would become too paranoid to drive or be on the road with all of the "unsafe" cars running around.

Just keeping this in proportion.

"(Reuters) - General Motors Co is recalling 154,112 of its top-selling Chevrolet Cruze compact cars to check that the steering shaft was properly installed, the automaker said on Wednesday."

The issue speaks more to the quality of the assembly process.

Surprising to me given GM just went through some major financial issues and is hoping for good sales of the new models... one of which the Cruze is.

Issues like this is of concern to the average consumer considering purchasing a new vehicle with the Cruze on their short list.

This is why I only quoted the first link. The second article is a little more worrysome, but since no parts are involved your assesment that this is a quality control issue would be correct.

While GM (and Chrysler for that matter) are trying to re-group after the big sucking sound that was 2009-2010, the line workers and QC are the same as they have been for years. Until the manufacturing process is overhualed, we can expect this kind of thing to continue to happen.

While domestic manufacturers have put on a bright happy new face and the products that are being offered have many new features and gizmos, the same hourly workers are slapping these things together. No knock against the workers themselves, but the idea of pride in what they build just doesn't seem to be in them.
