Intake manifold finish options

Post by quicksilvr » Mon May 09, 2011 7:36 pm

I'm going to get my VC and intake manifold powdercoated. The question is:

The VC is going to be a medium/dark metallic gray with blue lettering.

What color should the intake mani be?

I'm torn. Overall, I want a really clean look, like what SlvrACR has always done with his cars...

Clean!

Also: my intake piping is blue, my plug wires are blue, and I'm going to make the lettering on my injector cover blue. Besides that, everything else is factory under the hood.

I like the polished manifold but that's a ton of work.

Anyone have pictures of a stock magnum manifold powdercoated? I'm curious what it looks like with the rough casting.....

Here's the only picture I could find of a rough cast manfold after pc'ing

John could give you a better idea, but I think you can do a ceramic coating type PC and it would probably be pretty smooth when applied on a rough cast.

I'll have to take some pictures of my intake manifold.

The poor casting does show through powder.... mines a gloss black and you can see it a little bit but it's honestly not THAT bad.

I haven't forgotten about your request.. I need to see what we have in stock and get back with you.

We have a "chrome" powdercoat.. it doesn't come out like real chrome though. It looks like a shiny silver pretty much.

Actually, look in the thread for me in the vendor section and the blue/chrome vc were done with our chrome. :)

Oh yeah, I'm diggin that "chrome" look a lot. You're right, it just looks like nice shiny polished silver.

Would that come out ok on a rough cast manifold? If I have to polish the manifold, I probably will say screw it and leave it stock. lol

My intake mani doesn't look bad but maybe the casting isn't as bad as the one above?

Might have to shoot a pic of it and let's see how bad it is...

A rough prep with a DA would do wonders for the PC finish.

True. Especially the main flats. It might looks nifty if all I did was sand the flats, and leave the sides completely alone.

I rough polished mine and did a super chrome ceramic coat. No one could tell the difference and alot easier to keep looking nice

Wait, what? You mean your IM wasn't just fully polished? The manifold I used as my inspiration was *gasp* coated?!

That would be much easier to keep new looking though. Bare polished aluminum is a bitch to keep pretty.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...
