P0700 & P0841

Post by SMCarter137 » Wed May 11, 2011 8:08 am

UPDATE: RE: P0700 Transmission Control System Malfunction

I took the advice from another to go to AutoZone and have a scan. Along with the P0700 code was code "P0841" (Trans Fluid pressure sensor/switch "A" circuit range/performance). Has anyone had this problem? Where would this sensor/switch be located?

Also...my car keeps on doing a disappearing act with the transmission fluid. Last week, I check it which is read a little bit high. Last night, it was reading none.( I also made sure it wasn't parked on a hill) WTF? Anyone expierance this before?

Do you see it leaking anywhere? It isn't going to just disappear. That is probably why you are getting the pressure/sensor switch code. And possibly the two codes are linked together. I'm not familiar with Auto transmissions to be honest but that's my .02 As for where the sensor is located, I'm sure it's on the transmission! :D

The above picture is based on a 03. Not sure if it is different for other models. However you did NOT state your vehicle and I even searched your profile.

*EDIT*

after reading the following...

PRESSURE SWITCH STATES
A Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will set if the TCM senses any switch open or closed at the wrong time in a given gear.
The TCM also tests the 2/4 and OD pressure switches when they are normally off (OD and 2/4 are tested in 1st gear, OD in 2nd gear, and 2/4 in 3rd gear). The test simply verifies that they are operational, by looking for a closed state when the corresponding element is applied. Immediately after a shift into 1st, 2nd, or 3rd gear with the engine speed above 1000 rpm , the TCM momentarily turns on element pressure to the 2/4 and/or OD clutch circuits to identify that the appropriate switch has closed. If it doesn't close, it is tested again. If the switch fails to close the second time, the appropriate DTC will set.

Do you by any chance happen to drive this as if it is a standard? Cause that can throw the code if I am reading correctly. In other words, shifting to other gears while the engine is above 1000 RPMs. I'm not sure if resetting everything will work or not. Worth a try....
1) Check and top up Trans fluid if needed
2) Disconnect the battery
3) Press the brake pedal for 1 minute.
4) Re-connect the battery
5) Start car and drive under normal circumstances. (Apply brake, shift from park into "D")
6) Return home
7) Look for CEL (Check Engine Light)
8) If no CEL is present still do the "Key Dance" (Turn key on off, on off, on) Watch for "P0700 and P0841" *NOTE* P1684 may/SHOULD appear as it is the battery code since you disconnected the battery*

Check the coolant overflow bottle. Check the fluid in the filler neck. (cold engine ) if there is ATF in the cooling system stop driving it immediately.

If there is ATF in the coolant, you may be lucky enough it hasn't went the other way. If coolant gets into the ATX, it will destroy it.

The heat exchanger in the lower radiator tank is a common failure. Smarter ppl just bypass the in tank cooler with a decent external mount unit. It is far cheaper than a trans rebuild.
