weird bubbling and overheating issues

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

Post by Bluerocketsneeks » Sun May 15, 2011 4:04 pm

So i just had the engine replaced and the car seems to be over heating when the rad cap is tight... but when i loosen it and drive the car has a normal temp but the over flow boils and the heat goes in and out

Is the replacement engine used, or rebuilt? It will boil over with the cap loose at normal operating temp. It needs the pressure to keep it from boiling. You need to be sure all the air is bled out of the head/heater core. By overheating do mean the gauge is going to the red, or it just "boils over" worse with the cap tight? If air is bubbling out no matter what, the HG could be bad/improperly installed. (bad by human error)

sorry i didnt know anyone reply yet

yeah the temp gauge will go up the red...

i cut the center out of the thermostat and its been running a little cooler but will still overheat

it goes down when i let the pressure out of the rad cap..over heats faster with pressure

sometimes it will run fine then it will all of the sudden start to over heat

the engine was used with 60k... i had a trusted friend put it in but hes live 150 miles away

i cant find any signs of a bad hg

is there anything i should look for

Could be air bubbles in the lines if they didn't flush the system or your radiator could be going bad.

Mine was doing the same exact thing until I put some stop-leak in there and it worked.

I also just found out my HG is bad so that could the culprit.
