Rear Lip Kit + Exhaust Options

Post by 04 Mo Neon » Thu May 19, 2011 4:15 pm

So now that I have a full lip kit finally... I am weighing my options on the look of finished product.

Here is how my rear (car) currently looks.
Image

Due to the fact the cars color was not pre-painted as an option I will have to have the entire kit painted as well as modifying it to the style I like before it is painted.

I have spent a lot of time thinking about the different routes I could possibly go with this cars look and after 7 years of going back and forth between routes I have a extremely precise vision in my head. 'However' small tweekz here and there are things that I often ask other people for opinions because in the long run it helps to get a different perspective on things.

Anyway enough of the rambling.

Here is what I know.

I have 4 main options for handling the rear section of my car.

(PLEASE NOTE: I am ripping off some other members pics so if you have a problem let me know and I'll remove them. They are just for examples and they really help me visualize things, I appreciate any use I can have)

1) Leave it fully painted with round cutouts for the magnaflow exhaust tips
Image

2) Modify the paint scheme on the inner inset either by painting it black on the interior and leaving the rest blue or further having a custom paint inlay of some sort (doesn't matter atm).
Image

3) Rolling the inset like the 15 min mod most srt-4 neon owner's choose to do.
Image

Better way of doing it.

Image

4) REMOVING the inset all together.
Image

Each of these has its own pro's and cons.

I have weighed these options very throughly and I know I am not going to be doing 3 or 4.

I decided to include them as reference so that you understand my frame of thought.

So what it comes down too are either leave it one color or give it a visual appearance of some sort either with the illusion of disappearing using black or adding a graphic which ties in some how.

Anyway let me know what you think by the poll question and comments. FEEL FREE TO CHOOSE 3 or 4 I would be curious to what the real % is overall. Also take into consideration the color of my car and the taillights :)

I will also be photoshopping some design I have in mind since I'm getting it painted anyway and will update it when I finalize some designs.

Thanks as always!!!

--Eric.

Ok so I can't belive I'm going to post this but it gets the job done. lol.

Alright well I actually photoshop'd two options as well as found a better example of a rolled fender so that pic has been added. Anyway this is a prime example of how "not" to use photoshop but when you don't care too much this is what you end up with.

The first photo is just my car with the inset blacked.

This next one is playing off of the theme of the new dodge branding with the flag. It could be cool to add something modern to this car and it could be painted but it could also be a vinyl overlay added which might give me a result that is just as close.

So keep the fact that this could be drastically improved in the finish and precision but the concept would remain the same.

Do it like mine was (the last silver one, straight on, with a cannister and cut with a dull knife) except slightly angle the can and cut it with a dremel or something so it's clean and even.

The lip all one color looks good on silver cars. My car is a different blue, but that portion is black and I think it looks great even with stock taillights. It should look even better with yours.

This is what I choose, and I think this picture will help you better than your chop:

Not as good of a picture, but HudsonNeons:

I don't like it as much without the black. To me the black adds much needed contrast.:

I agree. The black adds a good contrast, giving you that 'disappearing' effect you were looking for, without you having to destroy your new lip kit.

I swear crystal you are like a mole when it comes to the interwebz, I don't know how you find such quality pictures...

But yeah that helps alot.

I think I am going to just stick with the black, it would be ez to do since the lip kit is already painted black from the factory so they would just have to put a coat of blue keeping the price down.

Thanks for the help.

That's what I did with my SY kit, I taped off the black and painted the yellow, worked out perfectly.

Haha, Eric I just came across your thread...thanks for picking Charlotte as #1! Whoo! :) My only problem with you using her photo...don't show a woman without her make-up man! That's a horrible arse pic of her! Here...I'll give you a few good ones

Cheers!

Now that that's settled, I agree with Zack. Silver (or white) would be the only two colors I personally feel can pull off the mid-section staying the same color, because they are such light colors. For your blue, I have to agree with Crystal, paint it black to give it a little bit of a contrasting look.
