Mopar MLS Headgaskets Don't Suck [edit]
When I found out I needed a new head-gasket I went out and bought a Mopar Multi-Layer Steel replacement because I wanted to fix it ONCE and not worry about it again. I didn't research it much but according to a fellow Neon guru, they don't seal great. Well I had an oil leak but dismissed the HG because it had been replaced but upon closer inspection, the whole rear of it leaking kinda bad.
Maybe I'l toss a crane 14 in there and ditch the 95 while I'm at it.
Edit: Mechanic fuck up, I take back what I said.

Stock Mopar MLS head gasket is holding up real nice on my boosted Stratus engine that likes to run hot for no reason sometimes.
Did you do the headgasket yourself or did a shop do it?

Did you also replace the head bolts?Forest Green 2k wrote:When I found out I needed a new head-gasket I went out and bought a Mopar Multi-Layer Steel replacement because I wanted to fix it ONCE and not worry about it again. never had an issue with one, always used them along with the mopar head gasket spray adhisive and new bolts. the surfaces also need to be perfectly clean and straight.

[/quote]Yup it definately needs to go lower. If its not scrapeing constantly why you are driving then its not low enough bro.
Bad prep/non flat surfaces are the main reason for new gaskets to fail. I've used nothing but Mopar gaskets (which are made by FelPro IIRC) and have had no problems. Nor have I seen a tech have a comback because of a Mopar gasket, only for improper installation.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

I'm not sure who this Neon 'guru' was that said they suck, but personally I've never heard anybody say anything bad about them. Hell, those MLS headgaskets were an absolute godsend after a decade and a half of the old piece of shit grafoil-type head gaskets on the 2.2/2.5's and the early 2.0/2.4's.

I FINALLY got ahold of the guys who replaced my hg and they said they reused the bolts because they "looked fine". Unfortunately this is not a certified garage or company so I have to pay for it again.
I take back what I said, I was under the impression the head and bolts were alright.
