Shortened shifter cables?

Questions about axles, transmissions, differentials, pretty much anything that connects the engine to the wheels, this is the place for those questions.

Shortened shifter cables?

Post by DetergentCandy » Mon May 23, 2011 7:44 pm

When I bought my car, Skip said he had shortened the shifter cables.
Right now the shifter is stock height, but has a much shorter throw than stock. It FEELS like a STS...but it's totally stock height.

I've PM'd him...but I don't think he checks in here all that often anymore.

What's involved in doing this...and is it cheaper than buying a STS?
I don't have to do it to Blackula cause it's already been done...but i'd like to know so I can do it on a future car, cause I much prefer the height of the stock shifter.

Ewh..?

I'd say just get a maddog 50% reduction. Little pricey, but the rod brake is nice and it's still stock height.

Good to see you around, Skip! :D

I guess i'll have to check it out for myself to see how it was shortened, then.

However, I wasn't aware Maddog made stock height STS. So if shortening the shift lever looks like it'll be too big of a pain, i'll pick up a Maddog.

I asked him to 'rebuild' mine to make it taller.
So now, I have a 'taller' STS...... but still have the shorter throws.
Very nice.

I would recommend asking him about this.
