Joplin, MO Tornado.

Post by 04 Mo Neon » Tue May 24, 2011 10:05 am

Being from the midwest I've gotten use to them and they don't really bother me and is just a part of life but the damage of Joplin is not short of unreal. I'm not sure what I would do if one that size hit. Our house is brick and a decent size and a walkout basement but the best we have for shelter is two concrete foundation walls and a storm that size I don't think even that would be enough.

Anyway a sad event for anyone affected. Glad I wasn't but crazy to think I was in the same storm system as it just an hour away.

They are getting beat up pretty bad. Most of the tornadoes that my area in northern Indiana got were F-3 or less and seemed to miss most everything important.

Hopefully it settles down for them and they can catch their breath

I read a reader's comment on Yahoo! earlier today that suggested the federal goverment pull foreign aid to places like Pakistan and use it for tornado relief here in the US.

Joplin's about an hour from where I am, the hotel I work at is now booked solid for the next 3-6 months. Some of the stories I've heard so far are horrific. Sad deal.

its crazy down around here. spent all day in my grandmas basement cuz of all the tornado warnings goin on today.

on another shitty note i talked to one of my buddies that lives down there and his girlfriend and her mother were inside their church during the tornado and the church was destroyed. his girls mom was killed and she had some debris fall on her and they dont think she will walk again. i had talked to him the day it happened and he said everyone was fine but he hadnt talked to her in like 2 hours, he got a text from her about 20 minutes before it hit and she said there was abour 45 people in the church basement and they were all playing games and shit. he didnt even hear from anyone about her and her mom till the next morning because of how crazy everything was

It's hard to believe that some of you guys actually see tornadoes on a regular basis where you live. I've seen a handful of funnel clouds here in CA, only one of which ended up touching down. Always been interested in tornadoes though, since I was a kid. Someday I hope to see a real one (from a distance heh).

i have lived here my entire life, and we have always had warnings and shit. but until this year had never seen one, i was always super excited by them. then this new years day one hit 2 minutes from my house in robertsville mo. and it scared the shit out of me to see the massive destruction that it could do. they are just insane.

They are pretty fascinating because of their destructive power and just the mysterious nature of them. They are amazing to see but the damage they do is horrible. Need to keep my fingers crossed that they don't start trouble in my neck of the woods. My friends have been telling my the storm system going through Indiana right now is pretty eerie.

I missed one on my job this afternoon by less than an hour. It hit Saint Joseph's College in Rensselaer, IN and destroyed a lot of beautiful old trees.

Word.
Especially since the aid to Pakistan is military aid.
