Clutch blowout

Post by seisephiroth » Wed May 25, 2011 7:22 pm

hey look what crawled out from a rock, me, anywho

so on my way home from work, i was accelerating from a stop light, 1st to second shifted fine, then when I went from second to third it just revved to the sky, so i thought ok i just missed it, downshifted back to second, nothing, revved to the sky again, went to first same story, so i'm stuck at a turn off on the median, get help to push it into a parking lot and as its rolling i can hear something in the trans churning, it still cycles easily through all gears, while the car is running even, without the clutch depressed even, the peddle seems slightly easier to depress. waiting till my friend can help me tow it home to tear it apart, but any idea's on what broke? it was just all of a sudden, no signs of a worn out clutch beforehand. its a t-850 btw

100% sounds like a slipping clutch. If the clutch is new, or "too new to slip" then there's a good chance your rear main seal leaked engine oil onto the friction disc, thus destroying the clutch.

So you can get into all gears with the engine running but without the clutch pedal? I find this hard to believe. Or did I read that wrong?

Does it actually shift into all gears? Sounds like the shift selector.

Yeah if it 'shifts' into the gear positions but isn't actually engaging gears, (which would explain it doing it running without the clutch pedal in) it might be a selector.

^Do those break commonly on T-850's? I know the high-HP cars break them, but that's on any trans if you put enough power through it.

the clutch is about a year old, with a rough estimate of 13kish miles :quotes:

i wouldn't say its too new to slip, but it wasn't slipping as far as I could tell, i had heard of the selectors going bad, and from what i remember easy to check out, so i'll start there. the gearshift moves into the gear positions but it doesn't seem to go into gear

i pray to the car gods its not the input shaft, i wasn't even dogging it when this happened, and my car is by no means a high horse car for a SRT powerplant

Holy crap that's not something you see everyday! I guess slipping was an understatement haha. I'd look into warranty on that if it's only got 13k on it, that's a defect if I ever saw one.
