Vibration Of Death

Post by akirony » Wed Jun 01, 2011 7:57 pm

Ok I have an 03 2.0 with magnum intake. I ve had the race motor mount inserts in for a whole and hadnt really noticed any added vibration. But yesterday I replaced my p/s acc belt with the one for ac and p/s. And as soon as I turned the a/c on it began the vibration of death. My car actually died to within an inch of its life then restarted and just vibrated like a super toy. Only happens when the a/c kicks on. My master tech at my job said it sounds like the compressor is going out. Could that be or is this the MM insert vibration people talk about. Also if it helps, my idle has been really low lately.

its pretty rough with ac on at idle with solid mounts when you say vibration of death though i think like your dash clips coming undone and the car falling aparart :-p

I wonder if maybe the PCM isn't kicking the idle up when the AC cycles? A bad compressor isn't really going to cause a massive vibration like that, but it's not impossible. Check the wiring around the compressor just to be sure it wasn't damaged while you were in there.

Mine can shake pretty bad with the A/C on. I have a suspicion it may be a little overcharged, as it is worst when the ambient temps are higher. It can damn near stall the engine. But it is fine below 85ºF

yeah its pretty normal, although mine did get to the point where it was turning so hard the tensioner started to rattle, so i replaced the a/c compressor and its not as bad anymore.

Well fuzzy I cant find my top dashpad screws so it kinda feels like itll fall apart.
When I get to work tomorrow ill get it on the lift to check wires underneath and up top.
I dont think its overcharged though since its been at least 5 months since ive had it hooked to the belt. Ive gotten to 185k miles so Im sure i need to replace the tensioner and timing components soon also. (The pcm thing is getting to me though because it only vibrates at idle, not driving or even holding at +1000rpm) so ive only been using it when I get on the hwy
