air conditioner 2003 neon

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

what is the idle speed at with the a/c on?

most neons idle pretty low with the a/c on causing harsh vibrations...

This is relatively common. One thing you can check is how well the IAC motor is working. Pull the cover off the air filter box, and remove the air filter. Start the car, and turn on the A/C. When it runs the compressor, you should hear the air being sucked through the IAC inlet hole. It will get louder with the compressor running, and then quieter with the compressor off. If it isn't then the IAC may not be functioning correctly.

If you have a helper, have them turn the wheels also, as the IAC should open a bit to compensate for the load. It may also need cleaned if there is enough carbon buildup in there to restrict air flow.
