Post by sidepipe87 » Sat Jun 18, 2011 4:31 pm

Some random photos I snapped along the way of ripping the motor apart, degreasing, and pressure washing things and getting ready for paint and rebuild.

Thanks man. I figure I probably have about $3500 into this total including the price of the SRT I bought for the donor motor, which also donated all body panels to my daily driver.

since this was a super popular thread I thought I bring it back from the dead for you all.

I decided instead of messing with getting a hone and honing the block myself and rigging a socket in the valve spring compressor to remove the valves from the DOHC head I'd just let a machine shop handle it. The place is local and I've heard nothing but good things about them. When I got there there was a garage full of Hemi Orange engines and blocks so I knew I picked a good place

I told them I wanted:

-block hot tanked
-block honed
-valves removed from head
-broken exhaust bolt removed from head.

Well after dropping the stuff off the guy called me and said he found a second bolt broken for a cam cap that I had not noticed and he'd handle that as well, cool. Today he calls me and tells me my total will be $105 + tax  I couldn't believe how cheap it was! When I got there to pick it up I saw that they had also cleaned the cylinder head, as well as the valves that were still usable. I think I got a damn good deal. They did a great job and saved me a lot of hassle.

No pics of the block as it's still in the plastic bag they put it in. Imagine a clean block though

Can't wait to start rebuilding the motor. Most likely won't get too much done before Carlisle though.

Things I know I still need

- 1 cam cap bolt
- AEM dryflow filter
- oil filter
- BC valves (need to go meet a local for them)
- DCR 3 groove retainers
- 1 random long bolt that's bent... not sure what it's from
- block freeze plugs
- spark plugs

I was super surprised to see that since I didn't ask them to do it and I had the same response!

Too bad I won't have it all done and swapped for Carlisle. ohhh welll

That is an incredible price for that much work.

You definitely made out good on that.

Still need to pick up the valves from this kid. Just bought a 3" AEM dryflow, Mopar single bead valve locks, Ferrea valve stem seals, and the freeze plugs. Still need to get the valves, belts, oil filter, spark plugs, random long bolt, and cam cap bolt. I have enough to get started with the bottom end build this weekend though. I hope to get the block on the stand tonight after I pull the front knuckle off the red car to replace the wheel bearing. Assembly of bottom end will start along with painting the block.

I did some more work on my engine today. Got the timing belt on finally and timed it... I'm really hoping I got it timed right. I did two revolutions and the marks still lined up. Can anyone tell me from the pictures if it looks to be timed properly?

EDIT: Just realized those pics are useless since I took the picture while the cam gears are upside down

Depending on how busy I am and how the weather cooperates I'm planning to have the car swapped by the end of the month

Should take that engine mount off and freshen it up. It looks terrible next to the rest of that awesomeness.

I like this thread :)

Your timing isn't even close. With the VC off, make sure both locating dowel holes are straight up, and you have to make sure the marks are straight in line with each other. You're at least 2 teeth off. Looks to be like 1 tooth on each cam, the opposite direction of each other to me.
