So im from the UK and I bought depo's.....

Post by Kezzo123 » Sun Jun 19, 2011 5:20 pm

Well I bought the Depo head lights from modern and when they came I was shocked at how different they are to my OEM ones.

First: No side lights insert holes at all (could be called driving lights, basically forward facing 4watt lights that go in the main housing)

And second: Completely different wiring harnesses.......

What I need to make these work are the American style D shaped connector plugs for the main lights.

As for the side lights I am considering wiring them into the front fogs.....

I honestly cannot believe they are so different!!

So do any of you guys have a parts car you can cut the headlight harness off??

Thanks in advance...

We don't have DRL's like you guys do over there, so naturally they would be completely different. As far as the harnesses go - I'm not sure, but I'm guessing you'd have to splice in a new connector as well.

just buy H4 plugs - you should get them in autoparts stores.

standby light is not needed - just use the halo rings for that

height adjustment? just forget it...

here is how to wire them correct:

Thanks for all the replies.

First off I dont have halo's they are Depo's / racoons

It looks like I have the H4 harness but the H4 bulbs I have out of the OEM setup wont go into the depo housings. The bulbs that came with them are longer in size and have a rubber O-ring, they slide in and lock with a plastic piece. Is there a H4 type bulb for the Depo's?

Lantern04rt - On my current housings there is a hole next to the dipped and main beam where I can push the side light into. Depo's do not have this. Is there a way of this working?

okay, better idea:
open your old headlights and the new headlights in the oven, take this parts:

- old black housing part (new should be the same so it doesn't matter)
- new lense
- new racoon bezel
- old H4 reflector
- old headlight adjust motor

now you have H4 headlights street legal with new lense and racoons!

(short said: install the old reflector and the adjustment motor into the new headlights)

could be that you have to destroy the old headlight lenses therefor - because mostly you cannot open them in the oven.

but depos come apart very easy

Ok this would be my last resort!! I didnt really buy new headlights to butcher my old ones.

Ill buy some 9004 to H4 adapters and get some tail-light bulbs and wire them into the fog's for side lights and some kind of fogs (however dimmer)

So far this is my best shot? Any think this is a stupid idea?

adapter, yes. check the wiring - they are often not correct.
why don't you install the 3rd pin to your blinker plug?
the bulb has 2 filaments - one for the blinker and one for the standby light.
connect it - and you have orange standby light like the US Neons...

By law I don't think I can have orange side lights..... ill check this though. I'll try and source the adapters in the UK and see what I can do.

PM me if you need help. went through this long before...

And:

It should be possible to install the height adjustment motors!
Remove them carefully and swap them with the manual adjuster!

You may run into a problem with the headlamps themselves too, since the Depos are made for LHD cars, not RHD like yours is.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

Theres alot of adjustment with the adjusters so I dont think that will be too much of an issue

It's not the adjustability that is the issue, but rather in the reflector itself. When the headlamps are properly aimed, the passenger side lamp on LHD cars throws more light to the side than the drivers side. On RHD cars (like yours), this is reversed. So when you adjust your lamps, you will be throwing light toward oncoming traffic. If you try to adjust that out you wont have any decent light going forward.

I see what your getting at, in all honesty if it passes MOT (inspection) im am not bothered. Nearly every street I have ever driven on in the UK has street lamps and where theres not, its main beam teritory...
