needs bluetooth so i can connect my blackberry to it, and make phone calls, (just cuz it sounds cool to be able to do that), also need ipod control or really i suppose an aux jack would be fine as long as it plays my mp3's. usb would be nice.. must have sub output as well,
looking at a couple..
is jvc crap? i have always used pioneers..
im not running a huge system, but my 350rms DVC pioneer sub is pretty fucking loud...

Go to Crutchfield. Do the outfit my car thing, and then you can pick just about every single option you want in a stereo and it'll show you which ones have them. I am on my 4th Pioneer HU, which is installed in the Neon (I sold one and the other two are still in the other two cars), but want to switch to a Kenwood.

Not for you if you still want a HU that plays CD's tho.
It definitely wasn't in my budget, but where there is a will, there is a way...
To be honest, the last few Pioneer products I bought haven't impressed me too much with their durability. And these were not $100 items.

JVC is a decent product. I have a jvc headunit sitting here, that I took out of my truck before I sold it. No bluetooth is the only thing on this one. In fact I got it from Crutchfield. And I use JVC for all my home a/v.

jvc makes some nice items. over the past couple years i have had a few of their headunits and been very happy with them all. same thing for the kenwood excelon series.
OP, if you can up your budget by $50 i just picked up a kenwood kdc-x895 refurb from crutchfield for $150 shipped (actually $180 because i added a 2 year warranty). has bt, usb port, aux-in, iphone/pod support.

no need to do the outfit part, any single din will fit without modification. a double din will with with modification.

$100 is going to get a piece of junk, unless you find some excellent sale on one that is normally more expensive. I would save up and get something quality, it will be worth it in the end, both in terms of reliability as well as functionality and performance.

All of my Pioneer units have been the $100 ones, but never had an issue until this last one. It will shut off at random.
On that Kenwood though, I don't need mobile video. I'm looking at one on Crutchfield, about $130 IIRC, with iPod control, CD, preamp and sub outputs and such.

The Pioneer stuff was one HU, and a couple of home audio components. I got the KIV more for the Zune capabilities than anything else. It makes life much better than what I had. Not that it was inconvenient, just didn't like potholes and frost joints. (docking station integrated into the console)
99% of the other features are a waste to me, but finding something that is strictly what you need is nearly impossible.

My stereo hasn't come on for two days. Took it out, unplugged the connector and fuse, put them back in and now the stereo works again. Stupid thing. I simply want something that lights up blue, has FM, a CD player, an AUX/iPod input and sub outputs.

I have to admit it. Bluetooth is a nice convenience. My headunit has it. If you want bluetooth. Just go out and get one for your car. I bought one for my wife last Christmas and she likes it. You don't need an aftermarket headunit to have bluetooth now.

i do not talk on the phone while i drive, which is why the bluetooth would be nice for that matter, in case i do want to. but i stream music from my blackberry, and wireless would be nice, hence bluetooth.. my g/f's mp3 player is also bluetooth..
aux jack is needed for my ipod, so i can just leave it in the car.
i dont need a high dollar stereo.., like i said my pioneer which i love works fine, i just wanna get something new with those features i listed above...
i know clarion is a good brand, what do you think of this headunit?

I just love how people now act like being on the phone while driving is a sin. It wasn't something you'd even think twice about just a couple of years ago. Some cars (I own one) came from the factory with a mute button that had a picture of a phone on it. Push the phone button to mute the stereo when you got a call. God forbid someone get a Bluetooth hands-free system set-up to use instead of the blasphemous cell phone itself.
Clarion is supposed to be pretty good too. Check out Kenwood units and see if you find something you like as well. They have HU's that are the same price as that one.

They act like that because most people drive like idiots and don't pay attention to the road when talking on their cell phones.

It doesn't have Bluetooth, (have a Bluetooth ear bud for that), but I just picked up a Sony Dsx-100 with integrated tune tray for iPods. doesn't play cd's but I get so much vibration I can't play them anyway. tune tray pops out, plug your iPod into it, lay it in the tray and the whole thing slides into the head unit. Sounds decent too. Oh...it lights up blue for you. Got it on sale at Future Shop for $119.

I can't stand having all of that stuff clutter up the display. I like Pioneer, don't get me wrong, but if you are going to spend that much, get a Kenwood.
