Help RawkBunny, she'll buy you pizza :)
Help RawkBunny, she'll buy you pizza :)
Anyone in the area who wants to come through and make a day/evening out of helping/educating me with some stuff on the ACR will get lots of pizza and beer! Yumm....
Requirements:
1) Swap current exhaust to a gutted cat off of Nate's car
2) Show me how to do an oil change on an SRT (I'm migrating from Nissan, I just need some instruction on where everything is)
3) Show me how to empty the catchcan
4) Tuck the license plate behind the front fascia and cut out the mesh.
5) Lots of silly time to cheer me up because Nate is in Germany for two weeks
I live with Nate in Silver Spring, so if you showed up for that epic 2gn BBQ a while back, you know where it's at. Otherwise just PM me and I'll get you the address. I think Jerry said he's busy this weekend but is free next week. John (Dante)? Juan?
Babe said we had all the tools necessary in the toolchest but it would be wise to bring a few that you know we need JUST in case we can't find them.
Appreciate the help!

Oil change is fairly simple, and trust me... I've had my share of retarded vehicles because I work at an oil change shop (Ford Taurus and Chevy Cavalier are the WORST to change the filter on).
The PT Cruiser, SRT, Neon all have the filter and plug right there next to each other. I don't know why not all companies decided to do it this way.... I swear, some of the makers were like "Think the mechanics will be able to reach this filter easy? Yea? What if we tuck it up over here? Ya, that's a good spot. When they take that filter off, they're going to spill oil ALL over the place"... bastards...

That's pretty sweet. Oil changing is fun, but I like when we get to do the other maintenance stuff at work (when people realize that vehicles actually don't run on gasoline alone).RawkBunny wrote:Good2005.Neon.SXT wrote:Oil change is fairly simpleI used to do them on my Nissan before I got the SRT, I just don't know where everything is situated and blah blah blah need someone to point things out before I dive in.
can't friggin wait.
When the guys show up, you'll see the oil pan and filter right there next to each other. Will be the easiest oil change you ever do
Take pics! Haha.

I think I heard about this, as far as the SRT-4 oil pan and filter placement. On mine, the filter is upright off to the side of the plug. I can remove either one without one being in the way.JeffM wrote:Really? I think it's a complete bitch where they placed it. Gotta loosen the drain plug to make sure it comes off, but the filter is in the way.2005.Neon.SXT wrote:I don't know why not all companies decided to do it this way....
Sucks to be you! Nah, but that's a lot better than having the filter 2 inches from the exhaust manifold, up over the air dam piece, between coolant lines, next to the starter... and yes, that's how they are on the Ford Taurus

Gotta love the horizontally mounted filters, what a backasswards design. The new impreza has an opening in the exhaust that you have to reach through to get at the filter, got a nice scar on that one.2005.Neon.SXT wrote: I swear, some of the makers were like "Think the mechanics will be able to reach this filter easy? Gotta make it difficult so the service department can make up for the slower new car sales. Cars being able to go 250k+ miles these days puts a big dent in dealerships wallets.

Nah, I've taken them off with oil filter wrenches or a big wrench/socket. Nothing special needed.bone-yard-racing wrote:2.2 Ecotec is the worst canister oil filter under the intake manifold completely impossible without buying GM special tool.

The GM 2.2 OHV isn't too bad if you try to get it from the top or through the wheel well.

Juan and John are the best---swapping to a gutted cat = even more grins from me when I drive, I love how it sounds now even more.
Removing the mesh = not the best idea, as it doesn't look as good unless you have a bigger intercooler, I have learned. I will probably put the mesh back this weekend.
Learned where everything was to do the oil change and she runs beautifully. I love how you can feel the difference.
Love this damn car. Thanks again guys for all your help.
I wish I had some spare cash for more mods
