HELP?! Please? Water(i think) coming into cabin from engine

Post by cpiggott » Mon Jul 25, 2011 11:43 am

Hey guys, I dont know if this is even the right thread for this but I need some help, I recently purchased a 2005 Neon sxt and yesterday, Hot summers day, no rain, nothing, so I turned the AC on and it sounded like a plastic bag was being ruffled by one of the vents, so i turned it off and turned it on a little lower, when i proceeded to drive off, water literally started spouting into the cabin from somewhere under the glove compartment. It doesnt do it when idle, or when the car is reving, but only when i take off in first gear(manual). If anyone has had this happen or possibly know what is happening, I would greatly appreciate the help.
Thanks in advance.
Chris

Check the drain tube that is on the lower firewall, passenger side/middle engine bay. Black tube that should elbow downward.

If it is clogged/kinked, water from the A/C will fill the HVAC housing, and run out as you now know.

The tube may need to be removed to clear it, if there is too much goop to get it to flow by just sticking a rod of some kind through. Worst case is the HVAC would need taken apart. Not something you want to do, it would be a last resort.

Removing the tube might not be a good idea either, not sure how difficult it is to re install....

It sounds like your A/C drain tube is clogged. It's a easy enough fix.

To address the noise, pull the blower fan out and clean out the HVAC housing. There will be a lot of leaves and crap in there. After that, pull off the drain tube (located in the engine compartment, on the passenger side of the firewall down low) and make sure it is cleaned out.

You should have no more problems.

*Damn, that's what happens when it take 5 minutes to type a post at work :(
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

Not sure if it was leaves, or water the blower wheel was hitting, but yeah, removing the blower fan will help see what you're against inside there. Forgot about that part.

Edit: But try clearing the drain first, so you won't end up with a face full of goo. :pukeright:

It still wouldn't hurt to have a look in there tho. Well, unless something comes out, and bites you.
