Looks to be you have a security issue, that's what the red dot is.

Are you using the correct transponder key? If you have another one, try that.

It looks like it has you locked out for sure.

The key may have gone bad. Being it is your only key, you are kind of screwed.

Try just keying on three times. Don't try to crank the starter, just on-off-on-off-on. If it is some kind of SKIM communication problem, it might give a code, but being it has locked down, it may not.

IIRC, you can leave it keyed on for an hour or two to reset the SKIM, but you would need a battery charger hooked up to keep the battery from draining.

It won't help if the key is bad, but it might get you a code. Not sure if a dealer can program a new key without the car there, which will suck to pay a tow bill on top of the $100 - $200 to get the key/programming.

I have merged your threads together. You don't need to have multiple threads about the same problem.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

Did you look into the possible key issue? Sounds like either the chip in the key or the SKIM module itself has failed. There isn't much we can do for you, you need to take the car to the dealer and have it diagnosed if you can't get codes to show up on the dash. Even if you get codes, there's no guarantee they will narrow it down enough.

I think we have given you our best guesses.

If you by some chance have another key that came with the car, that has the tan head, you may get it to start; unless the SKIM receiver around the ign switch has failed.

With that red dot lit, it will never start. The SKIM will switch the PCM so it does not internally ground the injectors, or coil. There is no reasonable way around it.

If your car is in an area that it can't be left with a battery charger connected for a few hours with the key on, you may as well have it towed to a dealer, which if the SKIM receiver has failed, you would anyways.

Likely it is not getting power from the ASD relay, due to being locked down. Pull the cover under the hood where the fuses are. It will tell you which is the ASD relay. Pull it out, remove it's cover and have someone push the contacts closed. Then the scanner may work. I won't promise it tho.

Key on three times, leaving it in the on position. It should give the codes on the odometer. Write them down, and check back here. In the engine section, there is a sticky for the codes.
