CEL code issues

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

CEL code issues

Post by BenAthar » Wed Aug 03, 2011 6:16 pm

It's getting time for me to do the emissions test and now my car is throwing codes of 420, 442, 455, 456. All of this from replacing my gas cap! :cussing:
WTF! This is why I hate some of the newer cars and their emissions valves and crap! Why would all of a sudden the Cat go out and a small med and large leak show up, when it was just a large and small leak? This is crazy. Might have to clear the codes and then drive it before the code pops up again so I can register the car. That or move to a county that don't do emissions testing! LOL!
Anyone else has this issue and what you did to repair it?

I seriously doubt the p0420 was caused by a faulty cap. You prolly actually have a bad converter. The chances of the o2 sensors having closely matching outputs, with a good cat are prolly pretty slim.

What cap did you install? If it is a non Mopar/Ford/GM locking cap, it will leak. If it is a vented cap, it will leak a lot.

Patience, of course, is a very powerful weapon, but sometimes I start to regret that it is not a firearm.
Too much time spent here is a sign of a bad case of Ownaneonvirus.
