My first project log, 01 acr :)

Post by gtownv6 » Fri Aug 05, 2011 5:40 pm

Well to start off I bought this car about a year ago, bone stock and completely unmolested. It had about 175k on the clock but was bought new by a family member and I knew every mile of the cars life, about 120 miles freeway driving every day.

Here she is!

First thing I did was the timing belt and waterpump, followed shortly by trading the flakes for a set of MB fiveX wheels which look like this.

As you can see from the pics she was sitting way to high for my tastes so I swapped out the stock adjustable struts for a set of tokico 5-ways off an 05 acr and dropped it on 1gn springs. Around that time I got a great deal on a cf hood in really rough condition so I sanded it down and re-cleared it making it look like new :)

This was the finished product:

Cool, seems like you are on the right path. Are you doing a lip kit or keeping it stock

Well I thought the car looked pretty decent and it was a ton of fun to drive but of course I wanted more. ;) While I was getting all the "show" squared away I was also gathering parts for the "go". Which brings me to this...
Image
I know I know, egay turbo. I gathered a few parts that include but are not limited to:
hahn manifold, srt intercooler, autometer gauges, aem wideband, begi rrfpr, 36lb injectors, srt rear section, and turbo xs bov.

Just recently I decided it was time to tear the car down, which brings me to this :)

Image

all the ic piping and exhaust was done custom by me and a buddy. exhaust is 2.5 inch all mandrel bent into a highflow car and srt rear section.

Its been alot of work but this is how it sits now

I've had it out on the road a couple times but I had a crock in my tb that I finally traced down so I am gonna get a new one and see if I cant get the car running better so I can finally street tune it.

Right now I am waiting on the new tb and also ordered a catchcan and will be getting a turbo timer pretty soon too. Also this weekend I'll be going to pick up a cf srt style hood and am going to get a cf trunk here pretty soon as well. so stay tuned.

Hope you enjoy and lmk what you think!

Nice to see another ACR on here. What kind of tuning are you using?

If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

just a rrfpr right now this is my first turbo car so ill play with this setup for a while and when I'm ready itll get a built shortblock, better turbo and an fic. But I figure this will be good practice and alot of fun along the way.

yep! ive seen turbo motors with more. The compression and leakdown tests were fine so I'm going for it. Worst case scenario I pop this motor and the car gets a je/eagle shortblock and a lot more boost!

Update! got my SRT CF hood a bit ago and I love it. Also switched to an electric oil pressure gauge and picked up a catchcan.

The car is 99% done just wating on a new throttle body to come in the mail so I can tune it. :) Also gonna reclear coat my new hood to get it looking like new and I have an appt. next week for a full clay, polish, and wax on my car! I can't wait to see how it comes out.

Just a quick little teaser!:

Need to start updating this more but I always forget, from now on Ill try to. Got a lot done on the car and I am honestly very very happy with the way it performs.

I need to tune the car up top but I have been taking it pretty easy just trying to make sure I don't have any issues or leaks. Finally took it for a 3rd gear pull today and it was amazing even with afrs sitting at 10.0.

Image

Cleaned the car up a bit, still needs the headlights cleaned and the cf hood re done before it finally looks good. OEM hood is on it now because I hate the faded cf

I have alot left to do on the car and in the upcoming days it will get:
agp dogbones
2 step WOT box with no lift shift
greddy turbo timer
srt shifter
modern performance gauge pod
srt seat reupholstery
and a fresh clear coat on the srt hood

Thanks man! Yea turbo is definately fun, and honestly I put it together pretty cheap. It was all the other toys I bought for the car that really added up lol
