Neon 2001 Original alarm stop working

Post by Hellcat » Tue Jan 03, 2006 5:16 pm

Hello everybody, Happy and prosperous 2006 to you all!.

I'm a newbie en I am wondering if anyone has had a problem with the original alarm.

Mine is a normal aspirated 5 stick shift 2.0 engine no electrical door locks, just the "anti theft"alarm NEON.

The alarm switch is the one that looks like a guitar end the two inside batteries masure 3.45 Volt each, both sets I have are the same, neither one works, not even beep or hump.

Is there a fuse somwhere in the car? or is it that my alarm is shot?

Thanks and regads

No offense intended but you say that you are a newbie and according to your information you are in your 60's. With that said I think that by "alarm" you mean keyless entry remote control. Does the "alarm" have an open and closed lock on it? maybe a trunk or red panic button? If so, this is not an alarm and the reason it is not working is that it is likely for another car seeing as how you said your car does not have power locks.

Anyone?....

uhhhhhhhhhhhh...................that is kinda strange how you would have a factory alarm and no power locks. they usualy give you all that good stuff with the factory alarm or keyless entry as stated above. so i am gonna go with opyr on this one and say that it is for another car and that is why it is not working. if you want to see if you have keyless entry take off the top of your dash and you will see the keyless entry box mounted underneith it. if it is not present, you have no keyless entry and that is why it is not working. :D

Well HA HA!

Well maybe I did not catch the Joke Ha ha but being 63 is no demerit, I do have broad expertise in other fields and I am a Handy mechanic, but in any instance I am not supreman or Mandrake,

A newbie for me doesn't have anything to do with age for me is a guy that enters a Forum or register for the first time here or somwhere and post for the very first time.

Having said that, let me explain, My car, eventhough is "Mexican", is not, it was imported by Chrysler and sold to me via a frendly CHR. Dealer (Brand new, 0 KM, Guarantee, Warranty an all that jazz), AND the Keyless is an Original Chrysler, Neons are not built in Mexico, there are several vesions of Neons and I bought the austerous version (poor mans car?) so, this "Keyless" alarm setter is lguitar shaped, it only engages and disengages the anti-theft alarm (what do you want me to do, it came like I'm saying) there is a difference in price if you ask your Neon with power Door locks trigered by the keyless. and is a stick shift, rare but it is like so (Mexico standards), of course you have the "luxury version" Automatic, Power everything CD Player etc.

Yes the "Keyless" is "guitar shaped" and it has 4 buttons one on top of the other Open lock, Closed Lock, open trunk and Panic buttons.

Part Number 04759008 AD and it says Daimler Chrysler on the back

It was working fine and somehow is no longer working.
When I pushed the Closed lock this button is supposed to arm the antitheft alarm, the lights blink once and the horn sounds once, when I pushed the open lock button it used to honk twice and lights blink twice, that's all it did aside from oppening the power trunk and sounded the horn interminentlly when pushed the Panic Button.

I have tried to Upload an image of my keyless but maybe I am not cleared to do that, but you can see it here.

I hope this time I did explain myself right

Interesting. However I think you may want to consult your owners manual for some clarification as it seems you may have a model we, well at least I myself am not familiar with. But if it was doing something before and now it's not, have you tried testing or replacing the battery inside of it?

remote may have crapped out on you too. do you still have warenty on the car? and i believe there is a couple of fuses that work with the keyless entry, but i think they are just for lighting and locks and windows. pop open the fuse box on the side on the drivers side dash inbetween where the door sits against it. check out all your fuses in there and see if you got any blown ones. worth a try if you havent done it already.

does the fob work at all?
DCx dealerships have a lil tool to test fobs. If properly tested, they should be able to tell you if the fob is garbage or not. 75% of the time its the batteries, but after there installed and the tester states that there is no signal your looking at replacing the fob....

C'mon guys is a regular simple Dodge Neon 2001 engine 2.0 made in Canada for exporting to Mexico, and sold in Mexico. only difference is Stick shift no Power windows or door locks (maybe the harness has all the wiring and connectors ready to put the solenoids and motors). but the rest is made in the Good o'l USA, asemblied in Canada VIN number is located at Chrysler's USA, Mexico and Canada data base

The Batteries as sated when I first posted show 3.4 Volts each it has two, so that makes 6.8 volts as they are positioned in series, not parallel and the Dealer gave me two sets of "keyless" & neither one of them triggers the action .

Tthe car has right now 37,000 miles original, car cost Aprox $11,000.00 US/DLLS, again Mexican standars.

My only miss-recolection is that my wife won this car in a raffle with a $5.00 dollar ticket at the School Teachers Union, but was picked up at a Chrysler Dealer BRAND NEW that is stinking new like new cars smell?.

Well it seems that I will have to buy a not OEM new alarm in case all fuses are ok.

So, I am checking first thing in the morning that fuse box.

Well if it's a base model like you say it is, technically it shouldnt even come with that remote. But that's another story.

If it's brand stinkin new what are you worried about, just take it back to the dealer and let them figure it out, that's what a warranty is for.

Hell I brought my car to the dealer just to have a fog light changed, not because I couldnt do it, but I paid for that warranty and I'll be damned if I have to pay for the bulb or install it myself when the car was a month old.

Bringing it back to the dealer would be the best advice I could give you, if both FOBS dont work it's likely the controller in the car that's shot anyway.

I have always hear our romotes described as "Peanut" remotes. I think they look like peanuts in the shell. :)

Wow this is getting intense.

Then again you'll grant me that the shape of the keyless is more a guitar shape b'cuse is flatter than a peanut?

The car was Won January 2001 thus the warranty is no longer in effect.

Bada bi, bada da, bada bu, I will get a non OEM alarma and forget about the thing.

Modrator please close this therad

Thanks to all of you for trying to help an "old ox"
