Automatic Power Mirrors

Post by nerox » Sat Aug 06, 2011 1:04 pm

I've got the power mirrors on my 2001 R/T and im such a lazy person that it's becoming annoying to fold them in when i park up and out again when i get in the car.

i dont wanna leave them out all the time ... coz ... well i like putting them in.

so my question is ... is there any way to wire the mirrors to fold out automatically when the ignition is turned on and fold in again when turned off ?

haha - no one here has them. they were only an option in the UK. So you will get no answer.
You can make some relais circuits for that!

really - if i would know how the switch is connected i could draw you a sheme for a relais that replaces the switch and moves them automatically.
could be interesting for someone here who bought those mirrors - but the switch bezel is only availlable for RHD.
Hmmm, maybe i will have a look in the service manual later...

So this is very similar to the switch in my neon so you turn it one way for in and one way for out.

i think what i need is a circuit that switches one output on when power is applied and turns a different circuit on when there is no power.

but also it would be good to use the switch for manual override incase of problem

no one ... ? Oh no, one has (in the box for years now - but hey).

The wiring is included in the main diagramma as well

Are u serious? You must live in the boonies...... I lived in the city and most of my friends still do and if you don't fold your mirror in when you park someone will gladly rip it off trying to parallel park or just drive by on the narrow street. So if you lose a mirror here you deserve it because you should know to fold it in

^ Exactly. Every time Ryan's visited he's always flipped his street-side mirror in and we're like WTF? Quick explanation and a trip to Chicago later, I understood.

If you want them to auto operate with the ign, you would need limit switches to kill to power to the motor once it is in either position. With the door switches, your finger is the limit switch, unless the button does not need to be held to move them.

Why do it electronically when you can manually do it yourself? To me is doesn't seem like that much more of a convienence.

If to me: It will need a way to shut power to the motor/or relay once it has folded/unfolded completely. Or it may damage the motor.

are that switches or buttons?

it is a switch.

so it clicks to in or out.

There must be a sensor inside to stop the motor when the mirrors have reached fully in / out. i think this is also true because when the mirrors are fully out and you fold one in manually, then when you turn the ignition on it will move it back to match the other mirror and the switch

if someone made this happen, they outta right a how-to. because if
its do-able, i'm so doing it... having the mirrors fold in and out
automatically would be legit. and because i'm moving to city life,
this would be perfect. especially since most the condos i'm looking at
have only 1 car garages that hardly fit enough room to even be able
to open the driver's door..
