Please HELP!

Post by chosenone2386 » Mon Aug 15, 2011 6:53 pm

I have an electrical issue and im not sure where to post it. VA state inspection wont pass my 04 neon because the marker lights on the bumper are not coming on. Ive pulled the harness back on either side and checked all the wires looking for cuts or broken wires. Checked all the fuses and have found nothing that would cause this. Anybody have any ideas? All help would be appreciated and rewarded with a cookie!

Did you replace the bulbs?
Drove my neon until it was killed in a flood.

make sure the front harness grounds are clean and secure - do you have 12v power to the socket?

They are spliced into the same power as the front marker lights, and grounded at the same places. Check the sockets for corrosion also.

Splice 118 for 12 volts black/yellow wire.

Splice 110 left, and 117 right for the grounds The headlamps also ground through those splices. If they are working, I would look more into the sockets, or wiring.

S110 Black Near Left Front Side Marker Lamp
S117 Black Near A/C Compressor Clutch T/O
S118 BK/YL Near Powertrain Control Module - C2

While the problem is not solved I have with all your help found the issue. The sockets are bad. I cleaned them both the best I could and if I position the bulb just right it will come on and stay on. Any movement though and they flicker and go out. Would this be something I could get at the dealer or should I go to a U-pull-it?

Any parts store will sell replacements also. They are usually pretty inexpensive.

Just use a good crimp, and heat shrink to seal them. IIRC Home Depot, or Lowe's sell crimps/shrink tubing with a sealer that seals them when heated. Those would be the best to keep the splice from corroding in the crimp connector. Soldering them on would be the best, but not everyone has the patience/tools.

I will be soldering them for sure. I have one of those crappy heat gun deals that does the trick. Thanks for the info about the parts stores. I didnt think that would be something they would carry.
