keyless remote... only need the remote

Post by blackjack23 » Fri Aug 19, 2011 4:28 pm

hey, my car, being a police auction car, came with keyless entry, but without the keyless remote xD, so i was wondering is there a way to find out which remotes will work with my car's system? a way to find out what system i have in my car?

thanks,

Xavier

most neons came with a keyless remote feature. unless yours is
aftermarket. though i don't see why it would need upgrading unless
it was remote start or something? anyways, if its factory, you can
get the remote on ebay even.

since you don't already have a keyless remote though, you'll have to
get your new one programmed to the car's system. the dealer can
do this, or i've been told even Ace Hardware has the programmer. i
suggest buying two remotes though, because if you lose one, you
will at least have a back up, and you can program a second remote
yourself if you already have one programmed.

though all this info could have been found online here. note the
"Search" button. it does wonders.

are you sure it has the keyless entry?
some Neons came without - especially the very cheap basic series!

What color is the key? Black or tan? Black may not have RKE. Not sure if RKE was sold separately from SKIM equipped cars. What year is your car?

you should be able to punch in your car's VIN# and view all the
features. there are certain websites that can pull up that kind of info

Most of those only give the basic info. I have yet to find one that lists options/equipment. Your local dealer can get you all the info from the VIN tho. If the Service/Parts person is helpful.

Input? Sure...

Buy a remote and have the dealer program it for you.

Done.

No, really. That's it. If you are looking for a used remote to have reprogramed, be sure it has 4759008A(whatever letter here) on it.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

How much does that cost? The remote is broke on my SRT so I've been either setting off the alarm, or unlocking the doors to deactivate the alarm, then manually locking the doors. I'd like to have 2 for it, but depending on cost I might just have 1 done.

If you have a remote already, you don't have to pay the dealer to program it. You can do that yourself (it tells you how in the owners manual and there is a how-to on here as well).

*edit* Here is the How-to
viewtopic.php?t=3346

The price will vary depending on where you get a remote. Want to go cheap? Get one used from any 2nd gen Neon or SRT.

New? It's been a while, but I'm going to say around $70-$80 for a new one.

Dante is right, if you already have one remote, programming the
second takes but a minute. I bought my second remote off ebay for
~$20 IIRC.

But if you do not have any remotes, i suggest buying two. That
way, you only need to get the thing programmed once, and if you
lose one remote, its cheaper to just purchase another and program
it yourself. otherwise, if you just buy one remote, get it programmed
at the dealer, lose the remote, you're only option then is to purchase
another remote and have that one programmed at the dealer as well,
which will cost more in the long run.

As long as the alarm is factory, you will use the factory RKE. When the car is locked, do you have a red light flashing on your cluster?

While you may have an alarm, it may not be factory installed. The type of alarm you have will affect what remote you need to get. If the alarm is aftermarket, you will need to figure out what brand and model.
