How to quiet my exhaust??

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

How to quiet my exhaust??

Post by unleashedcc » Mon Aug 22, 2011 10:07 am

Well guys, I am tired of a loud exhaust, not sure how it lasted this long. I have as far as set up, Kirk long tube headers, 2.5in full exhaust into an OBX muffler tip (no cat)

My question is, should i put a glass pack or a resonator? My budget is 125-150 installed so I believe a hiflo cat is out of the questiong. ideas???

how do I quiet my exhaust

My exhaust guy put a used Cherry bomb glass pack where the cat should have been on my 1gn. Quieted it right down. Sorry don't remember the length of the cherry bomb, 1gn is long gone. I suppose a resonator will help too. A used cherry bomb was cheap and so was the labor. On that car I had a flowmaster muffler and on the 2gn I have a magnaflow which didn't need any add ons. Good luck with putting a muzzle on your car.

beware, glasspacks will blow out the filling and become louder than shit after awhile...

i would just put a new muffler on it.. i have a delta flow flowmaster 842441 and its nice and quiet inside.. low and rumbly outside, something to do with the way the deltaflows are designed.. but there is no packing to blow out, so it will never wear out..

mine is a single in single out.. i know they make duals tho..

maybe try this muffler..Part No: 9425400 flowmaster..

:withstupid: I learned from my 1gn that the flowmaster was not my cup of tes. Put a magnaflow on the 2gn and loving it.

Usually a LTH, deletes the cat. Why would he go through all the trouble to put a stock cat back on?

Just stick one (or even two ) resonators on it and call it a day.

A few ppl have run a cat behind an LTH. It need not be the oem unit.
Something like this will fit in there.

And it about fits into the OP's budget. Two resonators will help, but a quality resonator won't be much cheaper. A resonator will have a bigger impact than a GP. They don't look like they would do anything, but you will be impressed.
